2008/09 Season
Congratulations to our 10A, 12A, 12E & 16A teams for being crowned premiers for 2008/09. Our Men’s teams found it a little tougher this year and although three teams made the final series all were defeated but not before putting in sterling efforts. Click for details:

8A1 TEAM REPORT
Players: Joel Beatton, Harrison Blacker, Benjamin Clarke, Ryan Collins, Hunter Johnson, Reece Kelly, Jonah Newton, Joshua Smith, Cameron Westlake
What a fantastic year for the U8 A/1 team. They went through the entire season undefeated and never really looked like losing a match. While it may have been tempting as a coach to play competitive, tactical cricket each week, the most important thing was to see each player get a fair go and for all players to improve their skills as cricketers. The fact they went through the year undefeated is a credit to the fact that each player contributed to the overall success of the team. There was no single standout player, and each player at some point in the season made their mark and played some excellent cricket.
The encouraging thing to see each week was the encouragement the players gave each other on the field. Whenever someone took a wicket or a catch or run out they were all there to pat them on the back (or jump all over them). As the season progressed the boys began to learn about good sportsmanship and having a disciplined approach to the game.
Their fielding was for the most part, outstanding and by comparison to other teams they got through their overs quickly by knowing their positions and through a competitive, concentrated attack. Few teams got close to the runs the boys put on and very few teams maintained a healthy balance of wickets at the end of the game.
All in all a very successful season and as most if not all players will enter the under 10's next season I feel they are well prepared for competitive cricket.
JOEL BEATTON - Joel is Mr Sport, whether football, cricket or badminton he loves every minute. Joel particularly impressed with the ball taking plenty of wickets and improving in both speed and accuracy throughout the season. He was also dynamite in the field with safe hands and accurate returns.
HARRISON BLACKER - An experienced cricketer with all the skills. He performed well every single game. With a batting average that Don Bradman would be proud of, not only did he score plenty of runs but more often than not he held on to his wicket with some good defensive strokes. A safe pair of hands and massive throw added to his value for the team.
BENJAMIN CLARKE - Ben I dare say has the safest pair of hands in the competition. With an amazing 6 catches in the field and 3 at keeper he helped the team amass an incredible amount of wickets throughout the season. Ben was also handy with the bat being the third highest run scorer and one of the only players to clear the boundary. Ben was an asset to the team.
RYAN COLLINS - If there was a rookie of the year award there is no doubt it would go to Ryan. Ryan loves his cricket and probably demonstrated some of the most natural ability of all the players. With 15 wickets for the season and 104 runs he certainly made his mark in the team. I think the only thing Ryan didn't love about the game was all the boys jumping on him after a wicket- perhaps that's just because he got so many!!
HUNTER JOHNSON - Hunters skills developed well throughout the year as did his confidence as a player. He had a massive pull shot on him and anything just short of a good length on leg stump he would consistently belt for 4. His bowling, while not speedy, was incredibly deceptive and difficult to play, resulting in an excellent 13 wickets for the season.
REECE KELLY - Perhaps the most improved player of the season Reece demonstrated some outstanding batting and bowling as the season progressed. The highlight was his 5 wicket haul against Como which included a hat-trick. His bowling was deceptively difficult to face and many players fell trying to hit some very accurate bowling.
JONAH NEWTON - Jonah's skills developed well throughout the season and his batting particularly improved. While not scoring a lot of runs he didn't lose too many wickets and his technique improved dramatically. He finished the season with 10 wickets with the highlight being the hat-trick against Como in the first round- all bowled!
JOSHUA SMITH - Josh was an experienced young cricketer who demonstrated some excellent skills in all facets of the game. He starred with the bat having a total of 192 runs and as the season progressed his defense improved and he started to hold his wicket more often. Josh was a great encourager of his team mates especially the younger players and his enthusiasm in the field rubbed off on the whole team.
CAMERON WESTLAKE - Cameron is an enthusiastic young cricketer who put in an all-rounder's performance each game. He was the most accurate of all the bowlers and was rewarded with 19 wickets for the season. His fielding was also excellent with 8 run-outs and 8 catches as fielder and keeper. His attitude and sportsmanship progressed well throughout the season and he developed into a good team player.

Players: Jonty Beavan, Michael Beavan, Luke Goodman, Luke Grinham, Nicholas Grinham, Jack Heffernan, Harrison Long, Jye Philip, Liam Roche, Liam Shiagetz
When I signed Jackson up for another year of cricket I didn't know that I would be coaching him. As it turned out there was no one else able to do it and I was given the position. I was happy to take on the role as this allowed me to have some fun with a good team of kids and hopefully teach them the skills needed to play cricket. It was also good to get to know the parents and overall I think everyone had an enjoyable season.
I would like to thank Jenny for managing the team, Rob for entering scores in the computer after each game and both Jenny and Rob for writing reports every fortnight and taking on other jobs that needed to be done. Also thanks to Jordan for packing the kit up for me after lots of games. I couldn't have done it without their help.
To the parents, thank you for your support throughout the season. Thanks to those parents who scored when possible, to Mandy for supplying me with a drink each week and to anyone else who helped when needed. Your help and support made it all a bit easier.
To the kids I am sure we achieved what we set out to do – have fun and learn as much as possible about cricket. We struggled early in the season but came home with flying colors in the second round even getting close to a team that was undefeated all year. Their coach said to me after the game that our team was the best team they had played all year. This showed how much the kids improved throughout the season and they should all be very proud of themselves. Thanks boys for your efforts.
Jonty Beavan : Very enthusiastic and always keen to bat, bowl or field for us or the other team if needed. On the field after every over he asked when was his next chance to bat or bowl or wicket keep. He really improved as the year went on especially with his bowling and was always very keen to learn. Great work Jonty.
Michael Beavan : Michael also showed fantastic improvement finishing the year off with a great spell of bowling and getting plenty of wickets. Michael was always keen to learn new skills. While fielding he also showed lots of potential and was a good all rounder. Fantastic Michael.
Luke Goodman : With his laid back casual manner Luke will not have the problem of getting too stressed before batting in his future cricketing career. Luke was a pleasure to coach and really improved as the year went on. He even tried to take a catch after the ball was rocketed at him in the last game of the year despite the fact that his hand was hurting. He then came back on the field to bowl the best over I have seen him bowl all year. Well done Luke.
Harrison Long : Harrison always had a smile on his face and throughout the year became a bowler you could count on when needed with great consistency and pace. As the season progressed Harry scored runs with some good shots. He also improved his running between the wickets. Keep it up Harry.
Liam Shiagetz : In the field during the second round of the season Luke was a great asset to the team with his great backing up at the stumps. He also showed promise as a wicket keeper taking some great catches. Throughout the season Liam also showed improvement in his batting and bowling. Good season Liam.
Jye Phillip : Jye has a lot of natural ability and really started to show it as the year went on. I was confident that whatever he was doing in the game – bowling, fielding or batting he would do his best. Jye took some great catches, played some good shots with the bat and bowled some top deliveries with the ball. Top effort Jye.
Liam Roche : Liam was also a player with a lot of natural ability. I could see from day one of coaching him that he would be a great fielder. He took some fantastic catches and got some spectacular run outs. Liam followed it up with a lot of improvement during the year in his batting finishing off with a six in his last game. Super hit Liam.
Nicholas Grinham : Definitely a character who enjoyed his cricket. Nicholas must be popular with his friends as he would tell me about all the parties he was going to which were on nearly every week. He really improved as the year went on scoring runs with the bat and bowling some great deliveries. Top season Nicholas.
Luke Grinham : Luke has a good eye with the bat. He hit some nice shots through the covers and hooked some fours through square leg. Luke also gave his best in bowling and fielding and overall had a good season. Nice shots Luke.
Jack Heffernan : Jack had to make sure he was good around the coach! I was happy with his overall performance throughout the season. He put a lot of effort into his fielding, bowling and batting and was rewarded with a lot of wickets when bowling and runs while batting. Super effort Jack.
Finishing off I hope the kids had fun and enjoyed playing cricket this year. I look forward to seeing them play next season and hope they continue playing and enjoying the game for many years to come.

8B2 TEAM REPORT
Players: Blake Barden, Conor Brew, Liam Heinz, Jayden Howell, Jum Jitprung, James McCrohon, Maximus O`Shea, Paege O`Shea, Andrew Ritchie, Benjamin Young
Wow what a great first season of cricket it was, we all had loads of fun including me! More importantly though, the 8B2 players were tremendous, they were always attentive and keen to learn the basics of the game and to help each other out along the way. With all of them being new to cricket we started the year from scratch which was a challenge but exciting at the same time. The players' development throughout the season was very rewarding for all, parents, coaches and the extended family members.
Our results this year showed the team improvements as the season progressed with pretty much an even slate with our win/loss record. The team remained focused and motivated for both weeks of each match when they realised that it wasn't like any sport they had played, no result the first week. I think this taught them a great deal of patience.
The club committee members and Harry were a great help throughout the season with the details of cricket and tips for me as a new coach so I didn't look too silly. I was lucky to also receive plenty of support from our cricketing neighbours, the Smith's, who got us out of trouble on a number of occasions, entering the scores from the first few matches in particular, and offering an answer to all my questions.
Now a quick run down of the year for each of our cricket stars from the 8B2's:
Andrew- Some kids are just meant to play certain sports. Andrew and cricket are a perfect match. He is not just a quick and accurate bowler but also an excellent bat with some fantastic shots in his repertoire. He's a smart fielder and a great team member.
Ben - He showed some amazing improvement throughout the year and a real willingness to learn. His sweep shot to bring about a boundary, his first of the season, in his last match was one of the shots of the year. Ben's bowling continued to strengthen each match.
Blake – A passionate, competitive and willing player. His bowling was superb in the second half of the season and he was able to show off his fabulous slide technique in the field in most matches. Blake's batting improved throughout the year and he was just starting to hit some form at the end of the season. Every team needs a competitive, spirited player, Blake was ours. He will be back next year for sure with another year of 8's to play, he will be an asset for any team.
Conar – Unorthodox bowler but very effective in taking wickets. After a few games I just said to “ let it rip Conar” and he certainly did, he never looked back. An unassuming cricketer with a great eye for the ball, a great cover fieldsman and awesome to have behind the wickets.
James – He came the closest in the team to hitting a six this season, he can hit the ball! He also loves a chat anywhere, anytime and this has kept me amused throughout training sessions and whilst umpiring this season. He does everything full throttle which is motivating for the other team members. He's an enjoyable cricketer to watch and has produced some excellent results with both the bat and the ball this season.
Jayden – He is the most accurate fielder in the history of the world, yes a big call but he can hit the stumps from any angle. He amazed me with the number of run outs he got this season when he basically only had one stump to aim at! His bowling and batting showed improvement throughout the season and should continue to improve. He's only six so has another couple of years in the under 8's, watch out 10's when he gets there!
Jum – If you need a bowler to get a wicket then call on Jum. He bowled beautifully especially once he slowed it down a bit. He batted strongly and was always really keen to play. He is a focused fielder, coaches love that. Top work!
Liam – Poor kid, he's the coach's son. They always get the rough end of the straw. Luckily he has a great temperament for cricket and knuckled down and got on with the hard work. He had a great season with the bat scoring a number of boundaries. His bowling was the standout improver this season with his last few matches showed great accuracy and he was rewarded with a few wickets. Top work mate!
Max – He loves cricket, is constantly smiling and enjoys getting runs and taking wickets. At training he is in his element when he manages to get his sister out, nothing like sibling rivalry. His batting and bowling improved tremendously throughout the season and with another year in 8's to come he should be a power house by the time he gets to the 10's. A real joy to have in the team, a true team player!
Paege – As soon as a cricket bat or ball is put into her hand her eyes start to sparkle. I think she takes great pleasure in hitting the boys all over the park or watching their faces when she bowls them out or manages another maiden over. She also enjoys getting revenge on her brother, Max at training; there have been many duals at training between the two. One tough little cookie that belongs on the cricket field. Well done Paege!
Finally a very big thank you must go to all the parents for always being there to support the team and help out when needed. A special thanks to Judd for helping with coaching, Dianne for managing the team, Paul and Doug for their education in scoring for all of us and lastly to Sharon for always ensuring the kit was packed up at the end of every match.
I think it is safe to say the whole team including all the parents had a fantastic and most enjoyable season; we were all just a little disappointed when it was over. I'm sure all the kids will back up again next year and bring some great qualities to their new teams in 2009/2010.

10A TEAM REPORT
Players: Joshua Berry, Dylan Croker, Jack Dwarshuis, Alexander Lee, Jarrod Mazurkiewicz, Luke Miller, Joshua Perritt, Jay Shearman, Matt Simpson, Dylan Smith, Harry Tattersall
It has been such a wonderful season for all involved with this team of talented cricketers. Undefeated throughout the year, Minor Premiers, and Premiers and all thoroughly deserved by a great bunch of boys. Congratulations to the Dragons CC as this marks the 3 rd season in a row the 10A premiership has been won by the club.
On paper we had a powerful team for the grade however we all know that games are not won on paper and to their credit the boys combined so well culminating in a dominant performance in the final against St Pats. One of the most pleasing aspects for me was the great team spirit and friendships developed over the season. The boys always played as a team and even though there were some outstanding individual performances, everyone contributed to the success of the team.
Our batting was very powerful this season. The openers always built a solid platform for the stroke makers to dominate later in the innings and no opposition side could truly say they dominated us with their bowling. Our fielding was of the highest standard and many catches were taken and run-outs executed. Although we could not settle on the one WK for the season Jarrod, Jay, Harry & Alex performed a difficult task well, sharing those duties, especially as they were keeping to some of the fastest bowlers in the grade.
We ran a bit hot and cold in the bowling department. It was at our home ground where we never really bowled the lengths needed to bowl out sides convincingly, maybe the run ups were the problem, maybe the opposition batsmen dug-in a bit more against us, however, having said that, no opposition batsman made a fifty and no team scored in excess of 145 against us. The bowlers left it to the Final to show everyone what they were truly capable of, tearing through the opposition for a score of 36 and just as pleasing only conceding 6 extras in the innings where we probably had an average of 30plus throughout the regular season.
I would like to thank my co-coach Andrew and team manager Neil who both worked tirelessly throughout this season. Your dedication and professionalism at training, the games and dealing with all matters that arose was very much appreciated by myself, the players and parents. Thank you also to Aaron & Col for helping out at training and to the other parents who helped with the scoring on game days.
Our season was a successful one result wise however, the boys never lost sight of the fact that the main objective was to have fun and play the game in the right spirit and this they did magnificently. It has been an absolute pleasure coaching this group of boys; they have been a credit to their parents and to the club. To the parents and supporters, thank you for your support throughout the season.
I hope all the boys continue their enjoyment of cricket and wish them all the best for next season. Thank you to Steve, Craig, the committee and all other club helpers for the support and time they have put in throughout the season.
Josh Berry: Having stepped up from last years' 10Bs Josh added experience to the team and performed well with both the bat & ball scoring 105 runs and taking 9 wickets. Josh seemed to be a magnet for the ball during game days and found numerous ways of getting hit on most parts of his body.
Dylan Croker: “Froggy” came up from last years' 8As and performed well in his first season of traditional cricket. He was probably a bit unfortunate to receive 3 great deliveries leading to 3 ducks in a row. He did however come back well after that to score some well deserved runs. His bowling and fielding were excellent taking 8 wickets and snaring 2 catches and he performed well in the SSJCA development squad. Dylan will come back more experienced and should prove to be a handful to opposition teams in next seasons U10s.
Jack Dwarshuis: Our opening bowler, a great fieldsman and a very talented batsman, Jack contributed heavily this season. 8 wickets at a very low average, 8 catches and 105 runs to top things off. His bowling in the final was unbelievable and the opposition had no answers. As Jack is usually one of the quieter boys in the team it was pleasing to hear him on many occasions giving encouragement to his fellow players. Jack was selected in the SSJCA development squad and performed well.
Alex Lee: Another one of last years' 8As playing in his first year of traditional cricket. Alex performed well with the bat scoring 51 runs in the lower order and developed his WK skills when asked to do so. His bowling was a little bit astray as he couldn't quite settle on whether he was a medium pacer or leg spin bowler. I think the final revealed the mode he should persist with when he bowled a fantastic spell to keep things tight at an important time. Alex ran a close second to Jarrod for the “longest hair in the team” award.
Jarrod Mazurkiewicz: Our co-captain lived up to his reputation this season and performed in all facets of the game. 314 runs, 12 Wickets and first up WK throughout the games. As our senior opening batsman Jarrod always gave us a solid batting platform to build on with no opposition team being able to dismiss him easily. One of 2 boys in the team to be selected in the SSJCA Creak Shield side Jarrod gained great experience through this. Managed to persuade his mum not to cut his hair this season and won the “longest hair in the team award” nudging Alex out by about an inch.
Luke Miller: A fantastic cricketer who performed well with both bat and ball. 145 runs and 9 wickets showed off his all round talents. He claimed many important wickets with his off-spin bowling and for good measure was one of the fastest bowlers when he reverted to his medium pacers. His fielding was superb and even amazed the spectators at one game when he decided to take a catch one handed for good measure after hearing the umpires “no ball” call. The coach might need to use a rocket launcher for the tennis ball drill at training next season as no ball was ever too high for Luke to catch. Another boy who performed well in the SSJCA development squad.
Josh Perritt: Josh worked on his bowling throughout the season to be rewarded with 7 wickets. His batting also improved and Josh should be a very handy cricketer in the U10s next season. Josh wins the award for 45 minutes of non stop talking in Neil's car on the trip back to Engadine after the 20/20 game at Homebush Stadium. Wow.
Jay Shearman: Jay did very well this season coming up from the 10Ds to score 74 runs, take 5 wickets and snare 5 catches as WK. Try as we might to rectify this, Jays batting chink was also his strength as the leg side was his main source of runs. Once he works on offside strokes and his batting stance, the runs will really come for this talented sportsman. Jay had an amazing throw and many times had our WKs wringing their hands on his returns.
Matt Simpson: Matt performed beyond all expectations especially with the ball capturing 12 wickets to equal the team bowling aggregate award with Jarrod. Matt had a safe pair of hands taking 4 catches and his batting showed great promise. Another boy eligible for U10s next season Matt should perform very well.
Dylan Smith: Our other co captain Dylan performed well with the bat scoring 179 runs with a top score of 61 and executing 3 run outs. Dylan really struggled with his bowling, 5 wickets suggest he was well under par for his ability. He really rose to the occasion on finals day however when he captured 2 wickets for very few runs on a shortened run up. This proved decisive as he kept the pressure on all of the St Pats batsmen. Dylan was the other player selected in the SSJCA Creak Shield side and should benefit from this experience. Dylan wins the award for best impersonation of “ Troy ” of “High School Musical” fame at training. He also came a close second to Josh P for non stop talking on our 20/20 excursion.
Harry Tattersall: “Hazza” was a welcome inclusion to the Dragons Club and this team. 221 Runs, 5 wickets, and first change WK tells a story on Harry's ability. On his day he was probably the fastest bowler in the grade with unnerving bounce to compliment this. Most pleasing was his willingness to help the co captains throughout the season keeping things nice and positive and encouraging all other players. Harry also performed well in the SSJCA development squad.

10C TEAM REPORT
Players: Matthew Easterbrook, Harrison Furlong, Keelan Jenkins, Matthew MacDonald, Tristan McGuire, Jacob Mifsud, Dane O`Neil, Alec Richardson, Rithik Sahay, Mitchell Sheehy, Thomas Squire
Thomas Squire: Thomas finished the season with the highest batting aggregate and was the leading wicket taker with seven wickets. His two high scores of 25 not-outs both came at crucial points in matches and helped restore our overall innings totals to respectable scores. Thomas enjoys his cricket and this is clearly demonstrated with him constantly sharing his thoughts and strategy ideas with the coach.
Tristan McGuire: Tristan was a rookie player this year and took to the game naturally and quickly. Tristan has developed a love for the game over the summer and was keen to improve his game by putting in extra work after training, of which he was rewarded with four high scores throughout the season. Tristan's bowling was straight and consistent with minimal runs conceded and he played the game in a true spirit of sportsmanship, and always encouraged his mates. Tristan will develop in the years ahead into a fine asset to the EDCC.
Harrison Furlong: When moved to the middle-order, this brought out the maturity in Harrisons stroke play with boundaries and consistent scores in the high teens. Harrison began to develop more shots to his game as the season went on and the runs flowed off the bat. Harrison was a consistent performer of this team and his bowling was always accurate and he began to work on his spin bowling at training and was rewarded with wickets throughout the season. Harrison also took valuable catches and run-outs at key moments in matches throughout the season. Harrison contributed in every game played this season.
Matthew Easterbrook: This young man gave his all in each and every game for the team. Matthew is everyone's favourite team mate and his innings against St. Patricks in round 4 was instrumental in his partner reaching a high score. Matthews's character was truly tested this year and he shone through as a bright light for all to see. His character as a person can be summarised in his efforts at training and each and every Saturday. Matthew never gives up and is an example to all of us. His catch in round 10 against Bosco was an absolute screamer and was celebrated long and loudly by all his team mates and put us into a position to win the game.
Keelan Jenkins: Keelan's all-round game improved after the Christmas/New Year break with scores of 18 not-out and 14, in consecutive matches. Keelan learnt a lot about cricket as the season progressed and was able to practice his skills more and develop his game. With this his enjoyment for the game and involvement in each match increased.
Matthew MacDonald: Matthews's determination and courage is defined in him always taking the initiative to face the opening bowler and the new ball. Matthew always listened to advice to improve his game and this was shown in the results he garnered throughout the season, with him continuously improving his scores and aggregate. Whilst Matthew was a consistent performer with the ball in his hand, he definitely saved his best till last with his magnificent 2/3 off 3 overs against Bosco in round 10.
Jacob Mifsud: Jacob's enthusiasm in the field was infectious and he showed his team mates how to attack the ball when fielding. His love of cricket is obvious with him always trying new shots and bowling in the nets. Jacob top-scored with 11 when opening the batting, getting the team off to a great start. Jacob also filled in admirably in the higher grades on two occasions, fielding for the undefeated under-10A and the under-12 teams.
Dane O'Neil: Danes talent for cricket was obvious with a natural technique. Dane's batting was almost text book and this was highlighted by a magnificent 25 not-out in our win over St. Patricks. Dane was often dismissed this year just down to pure luck of the opposition, rather than his own doing. Dane was the most naturally gifted player in the team and we hope to see him back next season with the EDCC in the under-12's.
Alec Richardson: Alec showed great determination to learn about cricket this season and improve his all round game and skills. He has a very strong and accurate arm and has the potential to develop into a very strong bowler and accurate bowler. Alec was a fantastic team player and took many valuable wickets with his accurate bowling.
Rithik Sahay: Rithik often opened the bowling for the team and always troubled the opening batsmen. His best bowling was 3/11 and he was unlucky not to be the teams leading wicket taker. Rithiks batting improved as the season progressed and his passion for cricket is there for all to see.
Mitchell Sheehy: Mitchell would often restrict the opposition with his left-arm fast bowling. He was always accurate and fast. Mitchell took many wickets this season and created some great direct hit run-outs. Mitchell was always interested to learn more about cricket and improve his game.

10E TEAM REPORT
Players: Cameron Bradley, Benjamin Gersback, Joshua Gersback, Ben Grimison, Will Hickey, Zachary Hughes, Luke Jones, Ethan Lamey, Callum Stunnell
We started the year with a very little and non experienced side, as many of the boys had never played before. Nevertheless we did well and fought hard in the competition. With this year behind them, the team should be able to build from what they have learnt for next season, as they keep on improving their ability in the game. Especially with the majority of players still eligible to play under 10 cricket again. Every one in this team played their part at some time or other during the season and it was this team spirit which made this season rewarding for all the boys.
Cameron Bradley: A wonderful team player who has progressed well this season taking a number of great wickets and having a good season with the bat, earning 31 runs. Cameron has a really positive attitude to his cricket, which particularly shows in the effort he puts into all areas of the game. Well played Cameron
Benjamin Gersback: Ben has a great positive attitude to cricket and it showed this season. A capable batsman Ben helped many times in keeping our runs up. Taking 3 wickets this season – Ben's wickets always seemed to come just when we needed them the most. He was an enthusiastic and popular member of the 10e's.
Joshua Gersback: More a bowler than a batsman at this stage, though could be an all rounder with his quick running between the wickets and with his accurate right arm, with which he took 3 wickets and will improve as he gets more experience. Josh tried hard all season, and was very enthusiastic at every match especially when it was his time to bowl. When batting though, you still need to concentrate on each and every ball.
Ben Grimison: Ben is able to field, bowl and bat with awesome results. Ben made a valuable contribution with the bat (34 runs) through some confident running between the wickets; he is a competent bowler with 8 wickets against his name, gaining them through a combination of spin and pace.
Will Hickey: Gets the batting award for 56 runs. A very good season Will. He has the ability to become a competent all rounder. As he is a great pace bowler able to take wickets, 5 of them to be precise, when needed and is able to stop opposition from scoring. Keep improving and you will soon master this game.
Zachary Hughes: A very good batsman with the ability to hit the ball hard and mainly square of the wicket, shown by his 32 runs. Zac, though starting off shaky proved to be a very good keeper and fielder too with a number of times he had saved many 4's. I hope to see you back next season giving the oppositions' bowlers a hard time.
Luke Jones: With an intense show of pace, Luke takes the bowling award this season as he took 10 wickets. Mainly in the later half of the season, Luke started to show why he calls himself a bowler. Though his 38 runs could mean he is an all rounder.
Ethan Lamey: Another team contributor who with 5 wickets and 18 runs did his bit. Showed promise as a keeper and that is important, as good keepers are hard to find. Improved his bowling tremendously throughout the season.
Callum Stunnell: Did well with the bat but needs to work on his bowling. If Callum learns to gain more flight of the ball he will take a lot more wickets. Keep trying Callum! I hope to see you come back next season and take those important wickets, as you did this year.
This was an enjoyable season, thanks to Joel Beatton and Harrison Blacker for filling in for a game or two. Thanks also to the parents for being there every game and helping with the scoring, Scott Gersback our manager and Co-coaches Michael Bedford and Daniel Dwyer.

10F TEAM REPORT
Players: Aidan Dunne, Harrison Dunstan, Jett Garland, Sean Molloy, Daniel Pickard, Nicholas Plunkett, Caleb Rattery, Michael Stock, Christopher Todd, Luke Tripi
The 10F's were made up of boys from different schools and became friends quite quickly. For the majority of the team this was their first time playing club cricket. The enthusiasm shown was fantastic and along with their willingness to learn their skills blossomed. Winning or losing was not a major factor for the 10F's it was more about getting out there having a hit and maybe claiming a wicket when bowling. Some of the boy's were that keen they took no chances with forgetting equipment by wearing their protectors whilst fielding.
The bowling improved and the amount of sundries given away had halved by Christmas. Some of the bowling styles shown at the beginning of the season made Muttiah Murilliduran‘s action look normal. At the end of the day all the boy's were standing tall with a nice straight arm.
Fielding although some times complacent due to hot weather was a pleasure to watch, with everyone backing up and also helping each other out with relay throws. We even claimed a few run outs with some accurate close in fielding.
Batting was always going to be difficult, having to wear pads, gloves and helmets for the first time and expected to hit the ball then run. The feeling of hitting the ball well was mesmerising for some and the thought of running somehow was forgotten. Shot selection improved with each innings and the removal of the slog to cow corner every ball was replaced with a straight bat and the sound of the stumps rattling was all but forgotten.
It was of great pleasure and enjoyment to see the boy's improve so quickly in all facets of the game. Look forward to seeing you all again next season.

12A TEAM REPORT
Players: Joel Almond, Adam Batty, Joey Cox, Brendan Curtis, Jake Goulding, Jordan Grinham, Brayden Heffernan, Jacob Heffernan, Joshua Johnston, Nathan Marciante, Dylan Rae, Lachlan Smith
Our new season commenced with a mixture of six talented second year boys from the previous 12A competition, five from last seasons undefeated U/10 A's and one from the 10B's. The boys were ably led by Brendan Curtis and Nathan Marciante with Dylan Rae adding his expertise with fielding positions from his view behind the stumps. Three toughened rep players, all with a good knowledge of the game.
As always the more experienced lads were expected to show the way for the younger ones, this was certainly achieved and as a result we finished minor premiers and ultimately premiers, although some of the older ones took time to realise the back foot from the blocks in our season's race.
An ugly first up win in a close encounter against Sylvania followed by a loss against St Pats really set the cat amongst the pigeons, leaving the coaching staff with a few worries. Round three saw us pitted against the undefeated Como/Jannali, in a close encounter we were glad to take the points in a thriller, finally out of the blocks and running, all the way to collect the blue ribbon at the finish line. The season thereafter was never in doubt as the boys gathered confidence we kept our only loss to R/2. With us keeping tabs on all players' stats we had the opportunity to give the boys equal time with bat and ball.
As always we played the game in a fair but competitive manner as is expected in “A” grade. At this time may I congratulate the association on the crackdown of loutish and offensive behaviour (commonly called sledging) this season, the umps before each match warned all players of the consequences should they breech their new code of conduct, well done the S.S.J.C.A. Proud to say our boys behaviour on field was exceptional.
OUR SUPPORTERS : No need to go to the golden arches for breakfast, the parents brought it to us with the team B.B.Q. and again backed up again for a sausage sandwich for lunch, well worth the calories parents. Apart from the food we could not wish for a greater family backed team, thanks again for your support.
BEN MARCIANTE: Wow, having a young champion as Ben Marciante with his young legs and great skills certainly helped us oldies this season. Ben dedicated his time to the team whilst entering a trade in the workforce as well as training two days a week for grade cricket. Ben made 1 st grade this past season as a 17 year old, a rare feat for his age. Sorry we didn't hear your acceptance song to first grade “jingle bells” or perhaps better for us! Thanks rocky for your help.
THE FINAL : Opposing our worthy opponents Como/Jannali, a side we defeated on our two encounters (one a thriller) we approached the game knowing finals are always a different game. Asked to bowl first we claimed one of their “gun” bats early when Nathan bowled a sharp bumper forcing the boy to walk on his stumps. Thereafter tight bowling and great fielding held them to 88. Wickets today to Josh and Nathan with two each and Brendan, Adam and Joel one each. With a few hiccups early our batting settled and we got home by 6 wickets. Brayden 23*, Brendan 27 and Nathan 16. On the day it was a tremendous team effort by all the eleven on the field. Our outstanding fielding display caused their manager to comment afterwards “It was like playing a full team of rep fieldsmen” We agree with him. Well done champions.
Boys advancing to the U/14's next season.
Brendan Curtis : (Captain). Brendan is a real classy cricketer in all departments of the game. A freak in the field, no ball was safe hit off the ground in his direction. A genuine all round cricketer Brendan's figures were outstanding, 274 runs @45 and 9 wickets@15. If not enough he took 5 catches and 2 run outs. Found ways to get out at the start of the season but came home with 72* in R/8, 92 in R/10 (our top score) and top scored in the final with 27. Congratulations on great season Brendan.
Jake Goulding: My talking mate at square leg for most of the games (sometimes we actually spoke of the game in progress, joking Jake). Behind his bubbly personality lies a real good cricket brain. Jake has excellent anticipation of the ball off the bat and moves with agility to cover it close in. A clean hitter Jake opened the innings on 4 occasions and scored his highest innings with 25 in R/4. I still smile at a few of his well timed comments on the field, thanks for the great memories Jake.
Jacob Heffernan and Brayden Heffernan: Coupling the two together as twins are, both boys had a huge season and formed the backbone of the side. Both boys switching from mediums to spin (Jacob leggies & Brayden offies) gave the team huge variation with the balls going away from both right and left handed batsman. True to say both were never mastered for the entire season. Their fielding demonstrated to the younger ones what “A” grade cricket is about. Sliding, diving and performing any amount of calisthenics, hardly a ball went past either of them all season, two very competitive young cricketers. Boy would I hate to be the third umpire in one of their backyard encounters! Jacob collected 9 wickets and Brayden 14, while Jacob didn't score all that many runs in the season he did score a polished 30* whilst his brother at the other end scored 59* in a great partnership against St Pats. Brayden compiled 254 runs with a solid 23* in the final. Took us most of the season to pick them apart. Brayden, don't change your Ricky Ponting blue coloured striped shoes from Jacob's!
Nathan Marciante: Confidence oozing, even introducing the reverse sweep, Nathan had a blinder. His batting dismissed bowlers to all parts of the field and many times over it. The most explosive cricketer in his age group he took the game away from his opponents on most occasions with sheer brutality. Hit a staggering 396 runs @ 44 and 8 wickets @13 and snared 4 catches. The new six's introduction took a real hiding from his blade. No Nath, not all balls can go over the top!! Great year big fellow.
Dylan Rae : Our older wicket keeper, Dylan gave to the side a wealth of knowledge. Given the responsibility of the field placements his judgement from behind the stumps was invaluable to the team's success. Originally opened the batting but later dropped to the middle order to give others a go. His wicket keeping was outstanding, standing up to the stumps for the fast/mediums he actually stumped 8 batsmen and took 2 catches, wonderful hands. Dylan's top score was 37 in R/1. Thanks mate, great effort.
Boys remaining with the U12's next season.
Joel Almond: Always a real character in the team ( never change Joely), his big smile and willing to please attitude is infectious. Normally batted middle to later order but when given a chance opened the innings against Caringbah, putting his head down he scored a solid 16, his top score for the season. With good hands in the field, Joel swallows any catch to come his way close in. Coming on nice with his pace bowling, Joel had a great final when we needed his accuracy with 1-4 off 4.
Adam Batty : A really good season for Adam this year. Collected 6 good wickets and top scored with 18 not out when opening the innings against Bosco to add to his 10* in the first innings. Adam had a blinder in the final when he nailed the opposition to the crease with 1-13 off his maximum 8 overs. He improved when he shortened his run up. Fielding in the deep his catching and tremendous throwing arm over the stumps was outstanding that brought high praises from one of the umpires after the final.
Joey Cox: Another pocket rocket and our other keeper (rep keeper last season Creak Shield), Joey kept wickets with Dylan for the side. Holding 3 catches from behind the stumps he also showed his catching skills in the field with another 3 including one in the final at a crucial time. A solid batsman he often opened our batting innings. Joey likes the ball coming on to him and his top score of 25 was a mature innings for a young 12A boy. Joey will shine next year as an older one.
Jordan Grinham: For Jordan this season was always going to be a year of learning. Jordan made the big jump from B to A grade, which gave him the opportunity to play with, and against quality players. Jordan showed ability, especially with the ball taking 8 wickets @ 9.25 and towards the later part of the season was given the opportunity to open the bowling. Jordan batted 7 times for 40 runs with a high score of 14.
Joshua Johnston: Josh again a quiet achiever had an excellent season as a young one. Normally opening our bowling innings his bowling action improved when he eliminated the skip in his delivery stride. His focus was fine tuned with the advantage of level eyes thus keeping the ball up to the bat, from that moment his in swinger improved dramatically. A classy batsman as we all know, Josh didn't score too many this year but next season it will all be different. Josh played a major part in the final with 2 good wickets.
Lachlan Smith : A genuine all round cricketer with any amount of ability, Lachlan had a good year with both bat and ball. With 81 runs @20 and 8 wickets @18 he should be happy with his achievements. His fielding in the deep however was spectacular. Lachlan 's sliding and diving pickups on the boundary markers and then his over the stumps returns saved us numerous runs. I feel sorry for the poor parent with the task of washing his whites after a match. Will be a standout next season.

12C TEAM REPORT
Players: Ben Barford, Matthew Berry, Kyle Goodman, Ryan Gorman, Mitchell Ibbett, Dylan Lees, Kyle McDonnell, Joshua Ridge, Anuraag Varanasi, Matthew Westlake, Matt Wright
Firstly I'd like to thank all the parents for letting their boys play this great game. As a coach I had a great bunch of kids who listened and learned and trained hard all season which made my job very rewarding. Thanks to all the mums, dads, grandparents and cheers squad for all your support throughout the season. Thanks to Anthony and Mandy for managing the boys, especially to Anthony who took on the mighty job of scoring as this was his first year in the cricket world. Thanks to all the boys for a great season and I look forward to seeing you next season.
Anuraag Varanasi - Anu had a good year. A very hard hitter of the ball and had some good inning this season. He's a natural leg spinner I'd say one of the best in his age group. Great season Anu.
Mitchell Ibbett - Mitch s first year as a cricketer certainly didn't show. He got a natural style batting and bowling but found it hard to get among the runs and wickets but that will come with time. Excellent in the field and was always listening to advice. Well done Mitch.
Ryan Gorman – Ryan's got the ability to be a good cricketer. He's always keen to have a go and can hit a ball hard when he's got his eye in. He got a few wickets during the season with his medium pace and took some good catches. Well done Ryan.
Josh Ridge – Joshy took a good leaders roll always talking his team mates up keeping their mind on the job. He became the team's strike bowler with some very good fast bowling. He was very handy with the bat and shows great ability as a cricketer. Great Job Josh.
Dyan Lees – Dyan has got great talent as an all rounder. He's great with the bat but he was unlucky not to get some big scores this year. He's also a very handy bowler and is always up to the task when given the ball. Excellent in the field with his catching and his ground fielding was nice to watch. Good year Dylan.
Kyle Goodman – Kyle was another one of the team members who also had his first year as a cricketer. He was a left arm bowler who improved week after week and we all know left arm bowlers are very rare. Kyle was always keen to listen and willing to learn. A bit more practice with the bat will see him get more runs next year. Good effort Kyle.
Ben Barford – Ben's first year back after a couple of years off. Ben showed all the skills of a cricketer. He was a very good middle order batsman. Ben's bowling improved throughout the season which rewarded him with a few wickets. He was also very good in the field with a good set of hands and was always encouraging his team mates on and off the field. Great season Ben.
Kyle McDonnell – Maca's was another one of the team's new cricketers. His batting improved greatly over time and his hard hitting saw him get a few scores. His bowling saw him as one of our spear head bowlers grabbing a few wickets throughout the season. A great out fielder with one of the strongest arms in the comp. Great first year Maca and good luck next year in the 14's.
Matt Wright – What a great season for Matt. Matt was our team's opening batsman and led by example grabbing some big scores, some the highest of his career. He was a very handy medium pace bowler and grabbed wickets when the team needed them. He was also a very safe wicket keeper and was also another one of our good fieldsmen. Matt's got the potential of becoming a great cricketer keep up your hard work. Great season Matt, Well Done.
Matthew Berry – Baz was the team's other opening batsman. Baz's great patience and keenness saw him stay at the crease and had many of the oppositions frustrated with his cool head. He was a keen wicket keeper and a good talker keeping his team motivated all game. He was also very keen to grab the ball and amongst the wickets throughout the season. Baz was a pleasure to coach and good luck in the 14's next year.
Matthew Westlake – Westy came on this year. His bowling was his strongest weapon. He worked hard this season and was rewarded with some nice wickets. He got his highest score this season (when the coach was away) with some strong and hard hitting. More work on your batting will see more runs Westy. Well done Matthew on a good season.

12E TEAM REPORT
Players: Justin Byrnes, Dale Cosatto, James Dowd, Maxwell Dunstan, Anthony Franco, Jackson Garrett, Christopher Hall, Tyler Hopkins, Lachlan Johnston, Lachlan Thomas, Shaun Thornton
YOU don't go undefeated, win finals by 40 runs and in doing so dismiss the other side in 22 overs by fluke. Score lines like this suggest you achieved a total dominance over your opposition for most, if not all, of the contest.
Last week at a packed Scylla Stadium, Engadine Dragons 12E totally dominated the final against DLS Seagulls in every facet of the game. Please note I'm placing significant emphasis on the words “dominated” and “every”. From the opening ball to the closing wicket, the Dragons were clearly superior in all the key elements it takes to win a final.
Let's spend some time talking about this team. They were outstanding. Daryl Thornton 's well trained boys bristled with enthusiasm and intent.
This side has a nice mix of players. They have their tradesmen – working class soldiers like Lachlan Thomas, Lachlan Johnston & Chris Hall who churn out the tough overs, do the yards and hold their catches in the outfield and refuse to give their wickets away. Every team needs these players. You can't win without them.
Opening bats Tyler Hopkins & Max Dunstan head a top order that not only play for each other, they feed off each other's toughness & enthusiasm. If either plays a cracking drive or pulls the new ball out of the ground his partner rallies to come up with an even better shot.
In fact everyone urges each other through the tough parts of the game, and when there's a moment to walk and talk they back- slap and encourage each other as acknowledgement of mateship and a job well done.
However, to bowl your opposition out in 22 overs in the final you need more than just a road gang of willing labourers. You need creative types who can take full advantage of your opportunities.
Engadine have some very dangerous playmakers.
All rounders Justin Byrnes, Jackson Garratt, Shaun Thornton & James Dowd were scintillating. They taunted opposition top orders & bowling attacks all season. And it doesn't end there, some of the bowling spells from Dale Cosatto & Anthony Franco produced spectacular results in the field. That's not such a rarity for players of this calibre in the modern game, I know. However, some of their deliveries had to be inch perfect to give the leaping fieldsmen a chance. Byrnes in particular executed with such composure and accuracy.
And although the capacity crowd were denied his hypnotic talents in the final due to injury, Nathan Ford's efforts with the bat put an exclamation mark on the season and sent Dragons fans into frenzy. He emphasised Engadine 's dominance and took your breath away, all at the same time.
In the press conference after the final a jubilant manager Heather Hopkins said “all these guys caused a lot of sleepless nights with their on field antics with the bat, ball and in the field”. Batting Co-ordinator Ross Dunstan was asked what he thought was their greatest asset. “Confidence. Actually, it's better than confidence-it's brashness. They know their stuff. They plot & scheme their way around the field. They have speed and skill and an unshakable belief in their own ability.”
This is a creative unit the equal of any shield team in the country. In the team photo these guys looked like they had senior mafia connections and would knowingly inflict grievous bodily harm on any batsman who had the temerity to murmur ‘good morning' when walking to the crease. Be thankful they play for the Dragons.
Working as part of the cricketing media can be both a joy and a thankless task, but occasionally the highlights will greatly outweigh the disasters.
In the years to come I will continue to bless the good fortune that had me playing at the time I did & then working in the period when the Engadine 12E's rose to greatness.
Tyler Hopkins: Opening bat who believes it's his duty to reduce every bowler he faces to a level of incompetence. With the gloves he topped the honour board for the grade with more dismissals than any other wicket keeper.
Nathan Ford: Probably the most difficult player in the side to reduce to words. At the wicket he does everything with style – a fascinating collection of strokes providing minimum effort for maximum effect.
Dale Cosatto: The sheer nerve of his bowling contrasted strangely with the quiet modesty, almost amounting to shyness. Not surprisingly, batsmen came together at the wicket with looks of concern and apprehension when Dale came on to bowl.
Lachlan Thomas: Endured a wretched run at the crease in the first half of the competition but finished to put a coat of polish on the Dragons season.
Max Dunstan: Possesses talents that are hard to ignore and virtually impossible to keep out of the game. A classical stroke maker who enjoys long spells at the crease. No doubt the cloak of greatness will fall across his shoulders in the years ahead.
Chris Hall: Rock solid all rounder and as game as Ned Kelly. Keen eye, heavy bat and an explosive technique that comes together with devastating effect.
Shaun Thornton: Showed enormous concern for the physical well being of opposition fielders by ensuring they chased leather. Also responsible for the catch of the season – had a regular spot in the highlight reels of the evening sports reports. 113 runs @ 37.67, 6 catches and 2 runouts.
Lachlan Johnston : You are right if you think there was very little ordinary cricket played when the ball was anywhere near Lachlan . 143 runs @28.6. Showed maturity well beyond his years every time he walked to the crease.
Justin Byrnes: The word ‘great' is often over used in all contexts, more particularly cricket, but Justin fits explosively into that category. His run to the bowling crease is as sweet as syrup. Almost mesmerising. His deliveries were murder. 17 wickets @ 3.65, 9 catches, 2 run outs and 25 no in the final.
James Dowd: Deadly left arm around the wicket spinner – James + cocky batsmen = wickets. His bowling was an important ingredient to the team's victory
Anthony Franco: Opposition spectators dismissed him, so did some players...and payed the price. If we were ever in trouble, bring on Anthony. Something was always going to happen. A pocket sized bowling bomb.
Jackson Garratt: Someone needs to check this boy's ancestory, He bowls like Jeff Thomson and stands and delivers like I.V Richards. Power and glory at it's best. 227 runs @ 56.75.

14A TEAM REPORT
Players: James Andrew, Joel Beattie, Marcus Beattie, Tim Berry, Zac Byrnes, Nick Chamberlain, Jonathan Haslam, Campbell Jackson, Michael McFarlane, Hayden Smith, Ethan Verdich
The 2008/09 season was a tough season for the boys. The team was made up of a mix of first year A graders, new players to the club and a couple of experienced heads. Though finishing second last on the ladder this doesn't reflect the fact that we were competitive in nearly every game even though getting the win was always elusive. Some players had outstanding performances in between the disappointing results. Of course Jonathan had a ridiculous season making over 500 runs and Hayden hauled in 23 wickets. But there were some other great performances such as Nick's 34 in round two to help us salvage a tie, Tim's freak hands at first slip and Michael doubling his season tally in the last round with a very entertaining 11. Even though the results didn't go our way it was encouraging to see all the boys enjoy themselves at training and during the game and to consistently put in the effort to improve their games. It was another great season for me coaching the boys and Mark also had a very enjoyable time assisting at training.
James Andrew: For first year in A grade James had an exception year with the ball. Taking up the new ball duties James was always on the money bowling tight and giving nothing away in the early stages of the innings. His season of 11 wickets at 16 are impressive stats and also managed to chip in 74 runs with a great 31 in round 4 to help the team post a strong total.
Joel Beattie: Started with a first ball duck but finished as our opening bat with 152 runs at 15 proving his worth at the top of the order. Joel and Jonathan became a reliable opening partnership which included a massive 120 run stand in our first win over Bosco. Joel also had a great season behind the stumps claiming 3 catches and two stumpings.
Marcus Beattie: Had a tough year with the bat and only managed 54 runs. Marcus though was always keen to show how much better he was and with the same commitment and enthusiasm should have a terrific year next season. Marcus though made up for it in the field. He is electric across the ground and his tight medium pacers were a vital asset to the team's results.
Tim Berry: Tim showed early on his ability to hold the bat with some great rear guard efforts after our top order had struggled. Unfortunately Tim couldn't maintain his form during the season and will look forward to some more runs during the next season. Tim was our other keeper along with Joel and he improved immensely over the season. His tendency to drop ball early on started to disappear and his glove work up to the stumps was sharp which reflected his 4 catches and two stumpings. Tim also somehow managed to have the team's best bowling average of 8.75 claiming 4 wickets including 3/20 in the last round.
Zac Byrnes: Zac impressed me from round one. He could hit a ball but more importantly showed maturity at the crease. He picked the good balls to block and the bad ones to smash. He made a few strong contributions and ended with 76 runs which was a top effort. Zac's bowling also improved towards the end of the season and his hard work at training resulted in claiming 2/13 in the last round to cap off a good year. One of the quieter boys, Zac always put in the effort at training and duly deserves the teams most improved player.
Nick Chamberlain: Nick was one of the fastest bowlers in the comp but was unable to use this skill effectively. Managing just five wickets Nick was probably a bit unlucky at times with some excellent spells but generally just needs to concentrate on bowling in better areas. The big plus for Nick however was the huge improvement he made in his batting. Nick worked extremely hard at training and this resulted in some fine knocks including a smashing 64 in round five. A great season with the bat Nick, well done.
Jonathan Haslam: Not much to say other than outstanding. 523 runs @ 58.11, 4 wickets and 9 catches this was most definitely Jonathan's season. He made 2 superb hundreds including a club record for highest individual score and on many occasions kept the score board ticking when others failed to deliver. Jono was one of the hardest working guys at training and had the concentration and determination to produce top class cricket each week. Also he is a great team player and was always encouraging and supporting his team mates. Well done Jono, an extremely excellent effort mate.
Campbell Jackson : Campbell had a tough first year in the 14s but showed some promise with bat and ball. On his day he bowled well and probably deserved more then the 3 wickets he got but struggled to maintain control. Campbell worked hard at training and did show signs of improvement as the season went on. With the same effort next season Campbell is capable of being a much better bowler then what he showed this season.
Michael McFarlane: Michael should be very pleased with his contribution this season. Michael became our surprise wicket taker, collecting 8 wickets at just over 20 a piece and seemed to be able to get a wicket when the opposition was on top. Michael did struggle a bit with the bat but in the last game managed a very entertaining knock of 11 which included his now trademark reverse sweep. A great team player, Michael was outstanding in the field, always putting his body on the line to stop the ball. Good effort Michael and you are very deserving of the team player award.
Hayden Smith: Hayden with out a doubt is a very talented batsman and very fine all round cricketer. Hayden will be disappointed with his batting efforts this year failing to pass 50 but can hold his head high as he led the team very well through the tough times. While he missed out on the runs his newly developed leg spinners became lethal and managed a massive season haul of 23 wickets @ 14.17. An excellent effort Hayden.
Ethan Verdich: Ethan was another player who worked hard at training but was unable to deliver on game day. Was consistently in the middle to lower order because he is a capable batsmen but just was unable to put the runs on the board. Ethan also started to impress with his bowling towards the end of the season. He began to get good control of the ball and managed a couple wickets in round 8 for good measure. Though he missed out on the runs this year he is talented enough to make more runs in the future.

14D TEAM REPORT
Players: Jarrod Cosgriff, Trent Edwards, Matthew Flegg, Paul Fsadni, James Grady, Joshua Kedwell, Josh Kennedy, Anthony McNamara, Mitchell Morris, Eden Murphy, Chris Pendergast, Mitchell Sargeant, Ryan Stevenson
This year all the boys enjoyed their cricket. We welcomed two new players into the team with Ryan and Paul contributing effectively throughout the season.
Each cricketer had their share of triumphs but mostly they had fun. The finals proved to be just out of reach for us this year but not through lack of trying. We had many very close matches that could have gone either way with a bit of luck!
Jarrod : a good all round player with a good eye for the ball and a keen batter. His best batting innings of 40 in round 5 and best bowling at 1 for 7 in round 9 contributed to the teams' success in those two rounds.
Trent : becoming a better cricketer each year. He had his best batting innings of 36 in round 6 and best bowling at 3 for 9 in round 9.
Matt: a quiet achiever who plays to his ability and has a go at every ball that comes his way. He had his best batting innings of 13 in round 5 and best bowling at 1 for 7 in round 2 and 6.
Paul : new into our team and a determined hitter. Handy with the ball and in the field. He had his best batting innings of 78 in round 8 and best bowling at 3 for 34 in round 5.
James : our youngest cricketer at only 11 years of age, certainly not scared of the ball and getting hit a few times! He had his best bowling at 2 for 11 in round 6 and 1 for 3 in round 2 had us all jumping in our seats.
Josh Kedwell : our dedicated wicketkeeper for the season, he did not get much bowling time or fielding but this is where his position is. He improved his keeping skills greatly. He had his best batting innings of 28 in round 8 and 29 in round 10.
Josh Kennedy : a very accurate fielder with good hands and a good eye for the stumps. Rarely let the ball past him. He had his best batting innings of 18 in round 4 and best bowling at 2 for 4 in round 2 and 1 for 2 in round 6. With 51 overs that included 9 wickets and 16 maidens, a very good effort.
Anthony: newly acquired skills as a spinner saw him gain valuable wickets throughout the season. Very handy with the bat as well. Good job golden child! He had his best batting innings of 53 in round 4 and best bowling at 6 for 25 in round 10.
Mitchell M : a safe hands cricketer and becoming more confident with the bat. Always a smile on his face. He had his best batting innings of 12 in round 1 and best bowling at 1 for 4 in round 6.
Eden : a much better cricketer and more focused this year. His bowling was quick and accurate. A fast fielder. He had his best batting innings of 8 in round 3 and best bowling at 2 for 14 in round 9.
Chris: a difficult bowler for the batters to hit at. He found his position at opening bat with many a new ball losing its shine at his bat. He had his best batting innings of 26 in round 5 and best bowling at 2 for 10 in round 3.
Mitchell S : learnt how to catch this year with 4 up his sleeve for the season, excellent. He may be Mini but he isn't worried about the fast ball that comes his way. He had his best batting innings of 7 in round 6 and best bowling at 1 for 6 in round 4.
Ryan: has been a most consistent batter for the season with 95% of his batting in the double digits each innings. A talented player with plenty of future growth. He had his best batting innings of 68 in round 8 and best bowling at 1 for 7 in round 6.
Overall the team had a good season with plenty of determination and good nature. Well done to all the boys. We wish to thank our coaches Mitchell Durie and Brennan James for the skills and youth they brought into the team. We look forward to another season in September.
Socially we enjoyed the BBQ's, get togethers and general friendly banter.

16A TEAM REPORT
Players: Ryan Almond, James Barnes, Patrick Bird, Samuel Bleasdale, Jordan Dow, Blake Duncum, Ben Dwarshuis, Bradley Ford, Nigel Garton, Liam Herne, Matthew Hobden, Matt Launt, Nathan Loder
This was always going to be a tough season for the boys. 10 out of our 12 players were first year U/16's and although the boys already had the last few premierships under their belt, it was a whole new ball game stepping up to the 16A's. We started the season with a comfortable loss to St.Pats and after going down to them another time in Round 4…we were 2 from 4 and struggling. The boys then turned it around to win 5 of the next 6 to make it into the final.
St.John Bosco were the minor premiers and probably slight favourites on the day. Benny won the toss and we struggled our way through to 9-118 from 60 overs. Some early wickets and a few spectacular catches (especially Nigel's if you ask him) put us on top early to have them 7 for not many. A strong partnership took Bosco through to a winning position…just 20 to win…before our regular finals hero James Barnes cleaned up the last three to end up with a 5fa. A fantastic effort by all of the boys to win a very tough competition, all of the boys contributed to making this a year to remember.
RYAN ALMOND ( vc ) - We knew before the season started that we needed Ryan to fire to have a good chance this year and fire he did. 507 runs @ 56.33 with two centuries and a few fifties meant that we had a solid start to almost every innings this year. If that wasn't enough to contribute, Ryan added 15 wickets at a very tidy 12.93… a phenomenal effort. Congratulations Ryan.
JAMES BARNES - Barnesy was definitely one of our bowling strengths this year. He has the ability to keep the ball low and to make the batsmen play shots. James ended up with 14 wickets this year plus a 5fa in the final to be our highest wicket taker. Barnesy is strong in the field at point and seems to take plenty of catches when he doesn't look a chance! Great season Barnesy, well done.
PATRICK BIRD - A solid middle order batsman and the man to throw the ball to when a partnership needs to be broken, Birdy made a strong all-rounder this season. Pat had limited opportunities with the bat this year but took his chances when he got them, guiding us home to victory on a couple of occasions. He also took his chance with the ball, taking 9 wickets from only 35 overs, one of the best strike rates in the competition…Great season Birdy.
SAM BLEASDALE - Bleasy when on fire is unstoppable with the ball, knocking over plenty of top order batsmen. His bowling got faster and straighter as the season progressed and is turning himself into a strong opening bowler. Somehow he averaged 14 with the bat … probably because he spent more time running out the other bloke than himself, handy runs all the same…Well done Bleasy.
JORDAN DOW ( vc ) - This self professed superstar had another good season this year with the gloves….saving many wayward deliveries from certain boundaries and taking a few catches in the process. Jordy chipped in with 161 runs @ 27 which is a little under what he would like but still good enough to scrape into the side next year…this is only due to the fact that the third of this young mans craft is bowling. With the staggering figures of 2 for 60 at about 7 runs per over, Jordy is an asset in any team. Good luck at the trials next year mate.
BLAKE DUNCUM - Blake was our only player with 16A experience and after some injuries earlier in the season, Blake came back well and improved as the season progressed which culminated in a faultless dig in the Final to give us half a chance of winning. Well done Blake, good luck in men's next year.
BEN DWARSHUIS ( c ) - Benny was a good leader this year, he learnt a lot and still has a lot to learn but thoroughly deserved to captain a side to a 16A premiership. The boy cannot win a toss until the final, which we will deal with cause we need to win the big one. Leading by example with the bat, Ben consistently scored runs all season finishing with 345 runs @ 57.50. He chipped in with 12 wickets and some freakish fielding to have a very good all round season. Congratulations Benny.
BRADLEY FORD - A very good addition to the side this year, Brad settled into the No.3 batting position well and consistently spent time in the middle all year. Brad finished with 155 runs @ 15 which were always much needed runs when one of our openers had fallen. Brad improved with the ball and in the field all year and is shaping up for a big one with the ball next year. Welcome to the club Brad.
NIGEL GARTON - Everyone loves Nigel Garton, it's just something none of the boys could control… Nige also wasn't too bad on the cricket field, putting everything he had in him into helping the boys win. Batted very well, helping us home on a couple of occasions and fought hard in the field all year. We love you Nigel.
LIAM HERNE - Herney took on the tough job this year of opening the batting and did it very well. Although he didn't always come off with too many runs on the board, he always did his job of wearing down that new ball and setting the scene for our middle order bats. His top score was a well made 60 and a few wickets and catches made it a good all round season for Herney.
MATTHEW HOBDEN - When Hobbo wasn't identifying rocks…he was bowling. His bowling continued to get faster as the season progressed and if it wasn't for a mid season injury, Hobbo would have taken plenty more than the 8 that he did take. Hobbo was a freak in the field this year, taking some ridiculous catches that only he could make look so awkward. Another solid season Hobbo, well done mate.
MATTHEW LAUNT - Matty Launt was another one of our second year 16's and struggled a little to find his feet in the 16A's but slogged his guts out to get the results he did. Matt's season got cut a little short this year but was a valuable member of the team. Thanks Matt.
I'd like to finish by thanking everyone who has helped this year. The scorers, umpires, witches hat attendants and drinks carriers….Thank You. My beautiful manager Margie Launt, whose efforts…and Mars Bars…were appreciated by all. Lastly to my two spectacular (or something like that) assistant coaches, Wade Horsnell and Adam Dow … thanks Wado and Hoggy.

16C TEAM REPORT
Players: Scott Boyton, Martin Brooks, Mitch Cox, Mitchell Dibb, Nathan Grove, Sam Haynes, Mark Kidd, Cameron Lane, James Loughran, Samuel Murphy, Matt Reynolds, Trent Rogerson-Lambert, Brent Wallis
This year we welcomed three new players to cricket – Trent RL , Nathan Grove and Sam Murphy. The team had a good year without making the finals, but with a bit of luck in the games against Caringbah, when we let them off the hook a number of times, we might have made it. Never mind, as most importantly the boys all played well as a team, enjoying themselves in this great game - which they played in the right spirit, and at all times displaying excellent sportsmanship to each other and to the opposition.
Each week we had a legion of supporters, more commonly known as parents, which provided a great atmosphere and support for the players. Without doubt we easily won the ‘most supported' team in the 16C competition! Thank you parents and for those who willingly (and unwillingly) helped out with the scoring during the year – it was most appreciated.
This year we decided to enter the Under 16's 20/20 competition which was run by NSW cricket. We were the only Dragons team to participate and when we won our first game against Summer Hill, we thought how good was this! However, we were swiftly brought back to earth in our next games against 2 A grade sides, but at least we had a go! It was a ‘good' experience for the boys and was also better than training, and we all enjoyed the après cricket.
Lastly, I would like to thank the three coaches – Dave McMillan , Colin Kidd and Greg Ings – for their time and effort in helping the team during the year. There was a great empathy between the coaches and players, which made for a happy team environment. I should mention though that at times it was a tad harder ‘managing' the coaches than the players! We should also thank Karen Kidd for making sure the coaches arrived in one piece on Saturday mornings after some ‘big' Friday nights.
PLAYER PROFILE
Scott Boyton (Capt.): Scott led the team extremely well and had a great rapport with the players and coaches. As opener, Scott also led the way with some solid performances with some much needed ‘captain's knocks'. Scott started the season with a 50 and scored 131 at 13.10. Scott's off spinners improved as the season progressed and were match winners by season's end. In the round 9 game against Bosco he bowled 10 overs taking 6 for 15.
Martin Brooks: It was great having Brooksy in the team – a great team player who had some good knocks with the bat, including a top score of 40 not out against his old team Bosco in round 3. Brooksy was also very adept in the field and was always encouraging his team, whilst his deceptive bowling nabbed him 2 wickets. Brooksy received the Team Player award, which was well deserved.
Mitchell Cox: Coxy was our strike bowler who was able strike fear into our opponents with his pace. Mitch took 15 wickets, at an excellent average of 10.7, and his best was 4 for 27 against Bosco in round 6. Coxy was also good in the field – mainly the outfield - where he took a number of difficult catches. His batting wasn't as strong this year as we know it can be but he still scored 34 runs averaging around 6 and top scored with 20 against Bosco in round 3.
Mitchell Dibb: Dibby was another great team player who was great to have around. He was happy to put up his hand to open the innings if need be - or to go in at the tail. Dibby scored 31 runs and had a top score of 11 not out. His best was saved till last when he and Sam Haynes put on 30 for the last wicket against Caringbah, which gave us a decent total to defend. Dibby 's bowling was also very impressive this year, taking 7 wickets at an average of 7, and taking 2 for on a number of occasions. Dibby deservedly received the Most Improved award – well done mate.
Nathan Grove: In Nathan's first year of cricket he acquitted himself well and his cheerful nature made him a popular member of the team. Whilst not getting that many opportunities, Nathan was able to grit out some runs when needed including a great innings against the front runners Gymea when he scored a PB of 9, but importantly Nathan defied their good bowlers for nearly an hour. Nathan was also very safe in the field and took 4 good catches during the year.
Sam Haynes: Sam was our ‘master blaster' for the year and provided us with a number of entertaining innings – including a memorable 78 against Caringbah. Sam amassed 372 runs at an average of 37.20 and was the form batsman of the competition, getting 3 more fifties as well as a 40. Sam was also one of our strike bowlers, taking 13 wickets at 12.92, and he was just as good in the field snapping up 7 catches to tie for most catches taken. It was no surprise that Sam won the team's Batting Award.
Mark Kidd: After a slow start Mark hit his straps in the 2 nd half of the competition making his ‘mark' this year with the ball, rather than the bat. His left arm medium pacers had the opposition in tatters on a few occasions and with 17 wickets at 8.41 Mark was our most successful bowler. His best was against Caringbah in round 5 taking 5 for 39. Mark scored 27 runs and took 4 catches. With his great success with the ball, Mark received the team's Bowling Award.
Cameron Lane : Cameron had a great year, not only as wicketkeeper, but excelling as a batsman scoring 150 runs at 13.64 – our back up master blaster! Some of Cameron's innings were nothing short of whirlwind and he almost got us home for an improbable outright win against Caringbah early in the year with a great 39 in 25 minutes, but we fell just 2 runs short. In the first 20/20 he scored a fantastic 52 retired to set up our win against Summer Hill. Cameron was also safe behind the stumps taking 4 catches and figuring in 2 run outs.
Jimmy Loughran: Jimmy had a great year in an all rounders capacity and it was indeed a pleasure to have him in the side. Jimmy 's batting improved during the year and despite having a penchant for belting the ball, he offered to open in the last few games when others were reluctant to do so. As an opener, he displayed great temperament and resilience, occupying the crease for extended periods. Jimmy scored 64 runs at an average of 8 with a top score of 22 in round 7 against Gymea. Jimmy also captured 11 wickets including a great 3 for 3 off 4 overs to ensure our win in the last game against Caringbah. He was also safe as houses in the field taking 5 sharp catches.
Sam Murphy: Sam was also having his first year of cricket and was eager to learn from the outset. He quickly fitted in with the rest of the team and was another good team player. Whilst Sam only scored 17 runs he displayed a good eye and could belt the ball as well as anyone. His best innings was against Gymea when he defied their best bowlers for over an hour to score a PB of 7 and was unfortunately run out when a bigger score was looming. Sam also picked up 2 wickets with his bowling. Well done Sam.
Matt Reynolds: Like Jimmy , Matt had a great year as an all rounder. Matt got away to some good starts with the bat but a real good score eluded him. However, he still managed 116 runs for the year at 11.60. Matt's top score was 28 and against Caringbah in which he figured in what was almost a match-winning partnership of 90 with Sam Haynes. Matt's bowling was very reliable and his persistent line and length got him 13 wickets at 11.54 for the year. Matt's fielding was also reliable and he took 7 catches to tie for most catches taken.
Trent Rogerson-Lambert: Trent was another having his first year of cricket and his enthusiasm made him a popular member of the team. Trent RL (as he was known in the scorebook) started the year, and his career, with a great quick fire 15 runs against Gymea. Whilst he couldn't quite emulate that innings again he scored 27 runs for the year. Trent also captured a wicket with his tweakers and took 3 good catches at slip during the year. Good luck next year Trent .
Brent Wallis: Brent had good year as an all rounder, and after a couple of good innings in the 20/20 games he had a few goes at opener where he displayed patience and attitude to hang in there on a number of occasions. Brent scored 37 runs, with a top score of 11 against Bosco. Brent's bowling was consistent taking 6 wickets for 23, with a best of 3 for 42. Brent was very reliable in the field taking 5 catches, including the one that mattered in the last game against Caringbah. Well done Brent

A2 TEAM REPORT
Players: Nathan Alterator (capt); Matthew Carroll; Joel Manns; Stewart Vella; Mark Mitchell; James Stone; Daniel Harkins; Steven Morriss; Paul Bremner; Sean Garton; Daniel Burke; Mitchell Eadie; Paul Barnes; Geoff Morriss
Without a shadow of a doubt, this season was enjoyable from Day 1 until the Grand Final, with a thousand highlights that cannot all be mentioned in this report. Despite falling short at the last hurdle, the lads can be extremely proud of their achievements this season, dominating the difficult A2 competition at our first attempt, and being crowned Minor Premiers in the process. As well as there being some excellent individual performances, the main catalyst for our success would have to be the way our team gelled together to work as a collective, supporting one another on the field and having an awesome time along the way.
This year, we welcomed a couple of new signings to our core group of players – opening bat Mitch Eadie, the guru Dan Burke and Jeremy Vickers after a year off. These guys fitted in almost immediately and earned the respect of their team-mates with their level heads and talent on the field. From the first day of the season, when we lost our first wicket at 188, we knew things were looking good, until way down the track in the second-last round against Taren Point when the wheels fell off somewhat with a 3-run defeat.
As well as Racomelara scoring 79, highlights of the year had to include Barnsey's phenomenal 188*, an innings where boundaries were hit at will, Warney's 6-wicket demolition of St. Pats, Mitch's 71 and Stone's 107 in the opening round, Mitch forgetting the stumps, Warney's quotes of the week, Harkins' massive innings in the Grand Final to earn him Man of the Match, Stewart's new love interest from Taren Point, Burkey (aka The Don, aka Graeme Smith) smashing Como on one leg, Mannsy sending the red pill down the pitch only days after being released from hospital, Bremner's magic cook up and Bourbon calls, Nato winning his annual duel with Dejarlais and thousands more highlights that cannot be recalled or released in the public domain at this moment. Speak to Morriss for more details.
So, with the Captain's hat on, I would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the season. It is not an easy job, especially with 14 fit players in the squad (no serious injuries this season – unbelievable!), to pick a team….and it has been an honour to play with such a talented group of players. Below I have included the season stats and nicknames for each player.

NATHAN ALTERATOR, CAPTAIN
B1(1) TEAM REPORT
Players: Wade Horsnell (capt); Brett Adams; Beau Knowles; Gregory Betts; Nathan Barry; Ryan Salakas; Craig Brownscombe; Ben Vickers; Cameron Turner; Stuart Slack; Spencer White; Jonathon Wright; Simon Morriss; Nabeel Chaudhry; Lee Bailey
After last years grand final win the team thought we needed to have pre-season training if we were going up a grade or two. So the team enlisted the help of 1 of test cricket's greatest players in Scott Muller and went on a 2 week boot camp in Amsterdam . The training was hard and vigourous , with alot of late nights and some tuff mornings.
Once back in Oz the team was feeling fresh and ready to start the season, but with last years player of the final still in Amsterdam awaiting his court case we weren't sure if he would play in the opening match. With the arrival of our star player (out on bail) for the first round the team was pumped to go back to back.
First half of the season we got off to a great start with winning our first few games and then a wedding and christmas parties derailed our season, but not before a magnificent century and a 5 wicket haul by the skipper Wado to kick the season off. Craig (Greg) Brownscombe and Nathan (Baz) Barry were our 2 debutants this season who would both add that spark and tremendous athleticism that the side already had especially the slips cordon.
Craig and Baz went on to have a good season contributing in all areas of the game one way or another. Craig with his bowling certainly kept the scorers on their toes having to consistently mark down 4 or wide in the score book and on one occasion W for wicket. He finished up with1/567 from his 20 overs through the season which was a great effort considering he hadn't bowled for a number of days.
It was Craig's batting that stood out though, hitting a 74 on debut and other scores of 64, 43no and 103 to pile 300 and something runs for the season. He was also dismissed by some freakish catches in the single digit scores he did have which would normally only be caught by big Stu in our side with those lovely soft hands.
Baz was a real team man who was willing to do anything for the better of the side. In one game at Gymea he bowled 8 fantastic overs taking 1/31 against a good batting side in Caringbah which proved that he could do the job when required. His batting was solid in the lower order holding up an end to get us across the line on a couple of occasions.
There were certainly some highlights to come out of the season that I can remember and nothing stands out more than Tubba tearing both hamstrings chasing a ball at Gwawley West that had us all in stitches. Then there were 8 blokes that had to help him up and carry him from the field into the back of an ambulance which held up play for more than 2 hours. The diagnosis was only severe cramp by the doctor.
Bailes continued his good form throughout the year turning up late on almost every occasion and having to put his shoes and socks on in the middle. It doesn't finish there with the big man purchasing a $280 puma bat, then weeks later he lost it off the back of his truck when it wasn't strapped in.
Congratulations to the 3 centurions in Wado, Craig and Spence who scored 104*, 103 and 104* respectively in different matches through the season and also Wado leading the wicket taking with 20, mind you it helps when you bowl yourself 300 overs during the season.
Hubb played 3 of the most important innings at different stages during the season. He may have scored only three 30's but it was the time in the middle and the importance of not losing a wicket that mattered with his coolness under pressure getting us through.
Unfortunately we didn't make the finals this season but that was due to the unavailability of players through the season and probably being a little inconsistent with the bat and ball at different times. However the enjoyment factor amongst all the guys is what matters and having a few beers after the game, putting crap on each other with team fines is what we all play for.
Next year there won't be any weddings or bucks parties we hope that will interrupt our season so we all look forward to playing alongside each other again.
STU AND WADE.
B1(2) TEAM REPORT
Players: Drew Lake (capt); Colin Berry; Matt Sambuco; Rob Smith; Andrew Kelly; Adam Logan; David Coady; Glenn Hickey; Will Wooster; Andrew Jones; Adam Dow; Jordan Dow; Ryan Marlow; John Watson; Nick Bird; Andrew Herne; Mitchell Walkerden
This year saw the combination of 2 teams who were struggling for a side. There were some experienced senior players and some fine young up and coming juniors. Firstly, welcome to those new players Adam D, Ryan, Andrew J, Mitch, John, Nick and Jordan, I'm sure that the experience you gained this year will lead you to better opportunities and success in the future. Hope you all enjoyed the season. To those returning players it was another enjoyable and successful year. Thanks to both Hayden Smith and Mitch Floyd who assisted us during the season. Also a special thanks to all the supporters who attended during the year. They included wives, kids, girlfriends and parents, we were no doubt the best supported team in our grade and I'd suggest across the association, well done.
With the combination of 2 teams we started the season as a fairly large squad and it's always difficult to get everyone a go each week. In the end we required the numbers as we struggled for players at various times during the season, particularly after the Xmas break. I believe we managed to achieve a good balance and had a successful season. The older guys provided the younger players some valuable experience and the younger players renewed the energy of the more experienced players.
The season started with a very dominating win and we saw some very handy performances by most players. Unfortunately this domination was quickly eroded in the following game where we were beaten by as much as we won the first. Our woes didn't end there; we lost our next game after being in a winning position on a couple of occasions. After that we managed to get on a roll and put some strong performances together with some excellent batting setting up some large targets and chasing down some handy targets against some quality opposition. By the Xmas break we had reached 2 nd place and all that was required was a couple more wins. Unfortunately, after the break our batting let us down, and as has been the case in previous seasons, we began to struggle for a win. We did manage to escape with a victory against Heathcote with a fine bowling performance to have them out for 60 which ultimately gave us 2 nd position on the table.
In the Semi we played Heathcote. After an average performance on the Saturday, we arrived on Sunday to find the pitch had been damaged over night. This gave us a fortunate victory (and a victory you don't really like to see). In the final we were dismissed for 95 and it looked like another big loss to the minor premiers. However, we saw some fighting qualities and in the end were unlucky not to win the game after we had them 8/48 before the rain.
There were many highlights during the season but here's a few memorable moments;
- Drew in the first game smash 72 to top score for the match and a couple of youngsters in Andrew Jones and Andrew Herne score some quick runs at the end. We then manage to bowl them out for 68.
- Glenn Hickey's over head catch against Engadine in the first round.
- Adam Dow scored our only hundred finishing with 112 and put on a partnership of around 180 with Matt Sambuco (74) against Heathcote in the first round.
- Jordan Dow top scoring with 55 and being involved in a couple of Partnerships with both Andrew Kelly (52) and his brother Adam (39) to rescue us after we were 2-2 chasing 189.
- Ryan showing his ability with the bat scoring 82 against Taren Point in the 2 nd round, to steer us to a relatively comfortable win.
- Coady scoring 67 against the other Engadine team in the 2 nd round to nearly pull of an improbable victory batting with both Hayden Smith and Mitch Floyd.
- Drew (4/23) and Adam Logan (2/13) destroy Heathcote in the 2 nd round and have them dismissed for 60.
- Finally, Drew finishing with 6/31 in the final.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the season and we will see all return next year to see if we can go one better.
The team;
Drew Lake runs 190 avg 19.0 wkts 16 avg 11.1– Started the season with his top score and then failed to continue to show the promise with the bat for the remainder of the season but did finish as our 3 rd leading run scorer. His contribution with the ball gave us that extra edge as he continued to bowl economically at the start of each innings and breaking the opening partnership.
Matt Sambuco runs 305 avg 30.1 wkts 18 avg 15.4 – Matt is starting to show his maturity with both bat and ball as he finished the season as our leading wicket taker and run scorer. He often was the backbone of the batting as others batted around him. He is also a very handy left arm bowler who broke some vital partnership. A great year and I'm sure there's many more to come.
Glenn Hickey runs 51 avg 10.2 wkts 8 avg 8.3 – One of the more experienced players, opened the innings but never really got going with the bat, with his top score being in the first match. Glen was a more the handy bowler who picked up wickets at an excellent average. He is also an excellent gully fieldsman where he took a super catch against the other Engadine team in the first round.
Adam Dow runs 192 avg 38.4 wkts 1 avg 2 – One of the new comers to the team, full of confidence and is a talented batsman; he managed the highest score for the team of 112 against Heathcote which was no doubt his highlight for the year. He's also is a talented off spinner (so he says)!!!! He's also a good talker in the field encouraging his teammates. I'm sure he has some excellent years ahead of himself, well done a good year.
Andrew Herne runs 142 avg 20.3 wkts 4 avg 34.8 – Andrew was another player who started his year with his highest score in the first game. He showed during the year what he is capable of with both bat and ball and he definitely has some potential to develop into a quality all rounder in the future. Keep up the good work, there's some very successful seasons ahead.
Jordan Dow runs 108 avg 21.6 – Jordan was our youngest member who played 16's while also playing in the seniors. He was always keen to put his hand up to bat up the order and he managed to top score in one game scoring 55 after the loss of a couple of early wickets. He backed up a good regular season by also top scoring in the final. He's also a fine wicket keeper and shows plenty of enthusiasm to the game. Good year mate.
Ryan Marlow runs 145 avg 20.7 wkts 6 avg 15.3 – Ryan is a very talented cricketer and has a bright future ahead of him with both bat and ball. He is a hard hitting left hand batsman scoring 82no in one innings and is a more than handy medium pace bowler as he captured 6 wickets during the season. There are plenty of good years ahead, hopefully he can learn from the experience gained this year.
Andrew Kelly runs 144 avg 24.0 wkts 1 avg 21.0 – Ned had a successful season with the bat scoring most of his runs during the first half of the season. He showed more maturity this year than in the past and this was no more evident than in Round 7 were he scored 52. He also rapped up the season with a face saving and patient innings with Andrew J in the final to give us a shot at a win.
David Coady runs 179 avg 19.9 wkts 6 avg 27.2 – Coady is a very handy hard hitting all rounder, who liked to dominate an attack. He scored some valuable runs with a high score of 67 against the other Engadine side to give us hope of a win from an impossible position. He's also another handy medium pacer with limited opportunities snaring 6 wickets during the season. Good season with many more to come.
Andrew Jones 56 avg 14.0 – Andrew was one of the ‘team players' always there ready to add his bit to the team success. He scored his highest score in the first game and finished the season off well with a fine innings in the final to give us some hope of a win. Andrew was also our specialist cover fielder who showed some great enthusiasm and managed to lead the catches with 5. I'm sure there's more runs in the seasons ahead, well done.
Adam Logan runs 43 avg 14.3 wkts 16 avg 19.5 – Adam was one of our opening bowlers who has improved consistently over the seasons and developed into one of our strike bowlers. While not finishing any game with a bag full of wickets, he consistently took wickets during most games and generally bowled very economically at the start. Great effort.
Mitch Walkerdon runs 103 avg 12.9 wkts 2 avg 70.0 – Mitch has had a few season off and returned to play with his mates this year. He started the season as a lower order batsman and occasional bowler. He batted a couple of times up the order and as a free flowing batsman showed he certainly has ability to succeed in the years ahead. He can develop into a more than capable all rounder.
John Watson runs 42 avg 7.0 wkts 5 avg 48.4 – John was generally one of our first change bowlers who showed some good pace at various stages. John should develop into a very a handy opening bowler with some valuable experience. He's also got some ability with the bat which I'm sure will develop further in the years ahead. Well done.
Nick Bird runs 54 avg 10.8 – Nick was one of our opening batsman and generally kept wickets. Unfortunately, due to injury and family commitments he missed a few games during the 2 nd round. I'm sure in the seasons ahead Nick can develop into a more than capable opening batsman and wicket keeper.
Rob Smith runs 10 avg 5.0 wkts 1 avg 30.0 – Rob generally batted down the order and had limited opportunities with the bat. He's a handy off spin bowler but again had limited opportunities. Rob's greatest asset was his presence at first slip with a good pair of hands.
Col Berry runs 52 avg 8.7 – Col was another of the openers, who started the year with his top score and unfortunately went downhill from there. Good team player and will bat wherever required.
Finally, unfortunately with 16 players not everyone can get a run in the final. Remember it takes a team to be successful and at various stages everyone contributed to the team's success. Again, a good year by all and I'm sure after competing in the final this year we can go one better and take it out next year. Thanks for a great season.
B4 TEAM REPORT
Players: Tim Russell (capt); Stewart Lumsden; Troy Abbott; Chris Moreland; Mitchell O'Reilly; Adam Turvey; Dean Griffith; Stuart Dibb; Chris Jackson; Chris Nelson; Blake Cole; Mitchell Ryan; James Andrew; Aaron Mall; Johnathon Ward
Unfortunately it was one of those seasons you just don't want to remember. Limited numbers each week and a slight over grade were never going to help this sinking ship. In saying this the boys did put a couple of good performances in, with many people starring at one stage or another through out the season. The installment of Fridge into the top order helped our problems with early collapses. Boat obviously had spent the offseason with Ponting doing fielding drills as his skills this year have improved dramatically. Mitch R, Blake , Turkey , and Deano again showed there skills with numerous spurts of brilliance. Jono and Mitch O'Rielly were more of our recruits through out the offseason. Jono showed us he hadn't lost anything with his time out of the game and Mitch lived up to the hype Chris Moreland had created with talk of his back yard talent. Talking about Chris he continued his season after season of solid wicket keeping. Also went alright with the bat, that is when he brought his kit + whites. Stewart Lumsden bowled well with the new ball all season. His batting on the other hand was left on the sideline, along with any self confidence he hadn't drained from himself seeing the fierce medium pacers. Jacko had a distracted season with uni taking up some time. When he did take the field he succeeded as seasons past. Impact Player Dibby came in and proved he was a cut above the rest of us mugs with his 4 innings totaling almost everyone in the team.
Hopefully I have slipped everyone's name in this report, if I have missed anyone I apologise.
Hope to see as many of you back next season as possible, we will get some new players in and will be more competitive in a bit lower grade.
Timmy
B5 TEAM REPORT
Players: Mitchell Davis (capt); Corey Davis; Mitchell Durie; Brennan James; Graham Price; Andrew Watts; Dane Logan; Michael Daly; Matthew Healey; Dylan Andrews; Matthew Barnes; Damien Collins; Simon Andrews
The B5 08-09 campaign began with a combination of returning players from the previous seasons B7 team as well as the return of a few former players and the introduction of the new team Ranga. After missing out on the points in round one, then having a certain outright result taken away from us when the opposition team failed to show up the following week we were on the back foot. However some consistent team performances matched with some inspirational individual performances saw the team making its charge up the ladder towards the halfway point of the season. The team had a slight hic up in round 7 against Caringbah Inn who were leading at the time. This was the team's second and final loss for the regular season. The second round saw the mighty B5 team win every game and head into the final series full of confidence.
The semi final saw us up against Miranda RSL a team that we had beaten twice and an establishment that the team had frequented many times throughout the season. After a slow but solid start on a heavy ground we found ourselves at 4 for 60 at drinks. A marvellous fifth wicket partnership of over 100 and some tip and run batting from the rest of the team had us well placed at the end of play with Miranda requiring 225 to win. Unfortunately lady luck favoured the batting team on day two. With the Miranda opener racing away to 50 with some very edgy slips drives. Some great bowling went unrewarded with balls finding gaps between fielders all day. After some seesawing cricket presented both teams with opportunities to win the game, Miranda won the game with just two balls to spare. This was a disappointing result for the team as our cricket throughout the year should have seen us into the final.
All in all it was a very enjoyable season. Everyone got along (most of the time) even the two sets of brothers. Everyone's cricket improved throughout the season and everyone contributed to the team in some way or another. Thanks for a great year and congratulations to the Dragons on its 50 th anniversary.
Mitchell (Mad) Davis – Season Goals Achieved – Dodgy up the score book so he got more six's then Mick Daly. Let his brother get more wickets then him. Last more then 3 laps of a circuit on his Motor Bike (yet to be completed)
Mick Daly – Season Highlights – 50 off less then 30 balls and nearly killed sleeping team mate round 4. Learning how to play swing bowling.
Corey (Peter Griffin) Davis – Season Goals Achieved – Get more wickets then his Brother. Bowl out entire team (still only got 4 wickets). Annoy team mates with Family Guy quotes.
Matt (Chuckey) Barnes – Season Goals Achieved – Annoy as many opposition batsman with random comments and statements. Convince the team that as a Chef he does more then just julienne Carrots and fillet fish.
Dane (Flash) Logan – Season Goals – Get runs without having to go to Whittos. Remember to take his chair home after matches. Continue to hold his record as the fastest man over 22 Yards.
Brennan (Church) James – Season Goals – Survive Schoolies, develop his bowling technique to be considered almost as good as his idol “The Great Man Keats”. Next years goals may include getting some runs!
Mitchell (The Phantom/Pup) Durie – Season Goals (still pending) – Convince SSCA to make Northies Cronulla an Authorised ground and have all matches played at the venue. Sign up but play as few games as possible throughout the season.
Andrew (Ranga/ VVS) Watts – Season Highlights – 69 in Semi Final. Being given out Bat before wicket on two occasions only to be greeted by the dancing duck heading towards him as he left the field. Proving that left handed red heads can hit a ball a fair distance. Unfortunately for him no one from the team was watching at that time.
Dylan Andrews – Season Highlights – 61 Not Out Round 9; 69 In Semi Final. Proving that Simon is not the only talented cricketer in the family. Receiving box of Weetbix as a present from the team for his Birthday.
Simon Andrews – Season Highlights – Century in round 7; 76 Not Out in round 5. Enough classic catches to fill a rained out session of a Test. Giving his brother out when umpires did not show up in final round (some people actually herd him appeal!!!)
Matthew (Heals) Healey – Season Highlights – Being the only player (can't be classed as a batsman) to not get out at any time throughout the season. In such shock after scoring a run in round one that he then proceeded to face up at the bowlers end the following ball. Having a near death experience when passing out/falling asleep near the boundary.
Graham (Labroy) Price - Season Highlights – 50 Not Out round 2. Surviving the City to Gong Bike Race. Creating many near death experiences for the opposition after kicking or hitting stumps out of the ground after wickets!
Damien (Tipper) Collins – Season Goals Achieved – Beat flash for fastest between the wicket award. Gloat about New Zealand winning the Rugby League World Cup. Enjoying the bottomless esky until discovering that you have to pay for the beers!
The B5 Team would also like to thank our regular supporters and Esky Emptiers Ray, Andy, Rowland, Shark Bait, Phil Barnes and Mr Watts. A special mention also goes out to the teams dancing duck who has managed to survive another season with so many hot heads in the team.
B6 TEAM REPORT
Players: Peter O'Reilly (capt); Darren Mexsom; Michael Smith; Gerard Dwarshuis; Ben Dwarshuis; Alex Sambuco; Ben Latham; Daniel Latham; Peter Cox; Rob Knight; Matt Hoff; Jeff Fiess; Paul Waddell; Brent Woodley; Tim Mall; Michael Ibbotson; Tristan Charles
I guess it was a comp that we could of won if we were any good….but we weren't…so we lost several games…this was due to many factors, mainly the players stated below. See you all next season I guess
Ben Latham : Leading run scorer for the year with 267. Ben took some sharp catches and put on some important runs this year, saving us a few times…but obviously not enough times
Peter Cox: I let Coxy play because he gave me a free cricket bat….turns out…he is a semi-decent bloke, can bat, can bowl but didn't, can field. Well done tiger!
Tim Mall : If he turned up more we would have won the comp…don't feel bad Tim…just step up to the mark mate, this is B6. Scored 100 odd runs and took 15 wickets @ 14. Good season
Rob Knight: With a batting average of 24..this superstar put the fear into many bowling attacks. To go with his spectacular batting, was his lightning fast inswinging, off cutters(probably 145ks an hour). He rounded it off by being by far the most agile and skilful fielder in the team…Well done Rob…from Rob
Brent Woodley : Brent only turned up a few times and went fairly average…But he brought the beer once so he was awarded MVP for the season.Well done Brent
Ben Dwarshuis : Goes alright for a kid..scored 250 odd runs and got a few wickets….wait a minute…at an average of 30 odd…how did he get a bowl Pete, back to the 16s boy.
Michael Smith : Who? Cougs was again disappointing with the bat, ball and as a general bloke. See you next year Cougs.
Peter O'Reilly : Brought himself on to bowl against a team that had already beaten us and wanted to go to the pub….Somehow jagged a hat-trick. It was Pete's last year of cricket (so he says) this year and we all cant wait to see the back of him….just kidding, thanks for everything Mr.Sheffield
Daniel Latham : Not as good with the bat as his brother…but about a billion times better with the ball….Was our best bowler this year when he wasn't hung over…that was once in R13 and the second Saturday of Round 5.
Darren Mexsom : For some reason Mex is right up the order, probably cause he cant bowl (ability) and we feel sorry for him. Mex did alright with the bat and is probably the most unco fielder you have ever seen. Don't know how to finish this one off Mex so we will just finish it with
Jeff Feiss : I really wanted Jeff to take one wicket so I could say his bowling average is over a hundred…but he didn't. Thanks for (insert positive comment here) Jeff!
Matthew Hoff : Hoffy went alright. Turned up most of the time and didn't annoy us too much. Got a few runs and definitely improved in the field.
Gerry Dwarshuis : Gerry's bowling economy rate of 9.3 runs per over really says it all. 9 overs 1 maiden 1 wicket for 84….I didn't think it was possible to bowl a maiden and still go for that many runs. Sorry for talking you in to it mate.
Paul Waddell : I guess we could say a fiery character. Wal bowled well but carried injuries for most of the season. Wal became a mail order bride late in the season and was shipped to Melbourne .
Michael Ibbotson : Ibbo fluked plenty of fours with those lusty baseball swings. Ibbo doesn't like cricket too much…but baseball is for girls.
Alex Sambuco : Buco was everyones favourite….no good at cricket but a legend of a bloke…Works at KFC too which is a plus…Next year Buc's….I'll chuck you the new pill.
Tristan Charles : I think he turned up once then was out for 6 months with a sprained pinky….Have a nice life mate.
As you could see, the love and team spirits are high in the Engadine Dragons B6 team….maybe you need a new manager. See you all in 09-10 when we can be sure that Mex will be fumbling, Ian will be scoring, Buco will be swinging, I will be a jerk, Timmy will have gay hair and Cougs will still be bald.
Cheers.
Rob Knight
B7 TEAM REPORT
Players: Allan Lofthouse (capt); Paul Marsh; Tim Martin; Matthew Russell; Kurt Mitchell; Ian Mitchell; Cameron Laird; Paul Dixon; Samuel Dixon; Jaryd Duncan; Jordan Duncan; Peter Duncan; Bill Ziegler; Tim Hodgson; Brad Young; Steven Robertson
The B7 team was made up of the nucleus of the successful 07/08 side, with the welcome addition of Kurt Mitchell (C2's in 07/08), Steve Robertson (moving back to the Shire from QLD), Cameron Laird (returning after 5 years in the UK ) & Lance Birkett ( from country NSW). All three were successful in the Team's ability to maintain a good position on the "Ladder" & on numerous occasions were responsible in that endeavour.
In a very tight competition, whereby any Team was capable of beating their opposition, the Dragons were able to achieve "SECOND PLACE" on the Ladder with 76 Points (comprising nine 1st inns. wins, one draw, two 1st inns. losses & Duty worth 18 points).
The three positions for the MINOR PREMIERSHIP & the PRELIMINARY SEMI-FINAL were virtually not decided in the B7 grade until the last of the fourteen rounds played, with five of the seven teams still in contention to that point.
The "Bowling" element of the Team was the main strength & was probably the BEST?? in the Competition, with the opposition only achieving more than 150 in a couple of games. This was to the advantage of the "Batsmen" whom at times, managed to make the games somewhat closer than they should have been. However, on most occasions the "Batsmen" were able to gain the VICTORY when needed.
Some exceptional Highlights from the Team were; Matt 60(rd2) & 57(rd4), Sam 7-64(rd4) & 5-33(rd14), Kurt 5-38(rd1) & 5-12(rd5, could have been a lot more), Steve 73(rd6), Lance 60(rd7), 4-4(rd9), 53(rd11), 60 &3-18(rd14) & 59(s/final), Jordan 4-13 inc. a hat trick(rd8), & Jaryd 67(rd4), 105(rd8), 138NO.(s/final) & 84(final). There were also numerous "Mentioned in Dispatches" for scores of 30 or more & 3 "fors" in the bowling column in the "Official Result" sheets from the Association. Also, who can forget "The Cougar's" efforts behind the stumps when called on, he didn't let us down.
Jaryd Duncan with his 322 runs @ 32.2 was the Team's most successful Batsman, with Matt Russell & Lance Birkett both exceeding the "200" mark. Jaryd surpassed "500" for the season when the Final's games were taken into account. He managed to score "222" runs @ an average of "222" in both those games, bringing his season total to "544" runs @ "49.455". "An excellent effort that" as Richie would say. It would have been great to here Mr. Benaud say "222 runs @ 222" in commentary.
Kurt Mitchell was the most successful Bowler in the Team with 35 wickets @ 9.486 Avge. in the 14 rounds. Jordan Duncan (19 @ 10.53) just missed the 20 wicket mark in the 14 rounds. Lance Birkett (16 @9.875) & Sam Dixon (18 @14.5) were the others to take over 10 wickets.
The Bowler's accuracy throughout the season shows up with them achieving a 61% strike rate of "Bowled" & "LBW" decisions (ie 70 of 115 wickets taken).
The Team only scored over 200 runs on one occasion, but did get over the 150 in 6 other games, & fortunately the Bowlers were good enough to defend these totals in nearly every game. The Fielding was good enough (say excellent) to assist the Bowling Attack in their task with 38 catches (some real classics) & 7 run outs, in gaining their 115 dismissals in total.
The Team would like to thank our "SPONSOR" Paul Marsh & his Partner Andrew Rendell (A1 METALTECH PTY. LTD.) for their support to the Club & Team. A "Big Thanks" to our Scorer Judy & our Asst. Scorer & Drinks Runner Katie (where would we be without them!!!). We would like to once again thank Tim Martin for his great efforts in coming down from Brisbane for the Final's games, & to Paul M., Tim & Kurt for subbing in Rd.14 when we were "dropping like flies" due to the heat & some injuries.
Also, as Captain I would like to thank all the Players, especially Matt, Bill & Ian (my Vice Captains) who gave me their utmost support & assistance throughout in making the season such an enjoyable experience & hope all will return in the 2009/00 season.
ALLAN LOFTHOUSE.
C1 TEAM REPORT
Players: David McMillan (capt); Mitchell Peacock; Scott Judge; Dale Bates; Andrew Kearnes; James Wood; Colin Kidd; Richard Kidd; Mark Kidd; Alex Teuma; Chris Reeves; Ryan Mutch; Jason Gilmore
A good start to the year and thought that we had the season wrapped up in the bag, until it wasn't to be and things started to go pear shaped for us. All started well and turned out to missing the finals by a long way.
All in all though we had a pretty good season provided the amount of players we had on the field in some games. We played some good cricket throughout the season when we had players at the ground which generally lead to borrowing or in some cases playing illegal players which we got caught for. Not much to right home about during the back end of the season with one game taking the field with 7 players.
All in all though guys a great season and heaps of fun.
Highlights:
- David's magnificent hundred - deemed to be the best ever.
- Scott Judges massive six at Boystown
- Happy's 140 odd not out.
- Eggs' innings where he carried the bat although not registered
- Richies' start to cricket getting a few wickets
- Mutchy's terrible comments
- Alex's sitter at Boystown which he made look 50 times harder than it should have been.
World's greatest captain.

C2 TEAM REPORT
Players: Daniel Tench (capt); Clinton Allen; Russell Myer; Anthony Crisafulli; Dean McMillan; Matthew Terni; Bradley Price; Daniel Walsh; Michael Bedford; Ryan Emerson; Russell Hanna; Brent O'Toole; Julian Breen; Daniel Nair; Peter Wagener
The season couldn't have started better, with an outright win from Caringbah. This was great encouragement for the lads as the next game we played was against Aquinas, where we lost by 3 runs only. We were very unlucky not to win. The last game of the first round we beat Bosco who finished up winning the competition.
This was the first year for the boys to play together as a team; many of them came from Under 16's. A special mention to Matt Terni, as it was his first game of cricket and performed well. Julian was great to turn up to every game considering he became a dad for the second time; a baby girl, Penelope. Congratulations Julian!!
CLINTON ALLEN - Clinton was a great contributor to the team, sharing the wicket-keeping and was handy with the bat and ball. Always alert in the field and loved his cricket.
MICHAEL BEDFORD (Beddy) - another great effort from a keen cricketer. Michael scored runs off the bat including a fine century. Another handy bowler claiming many wickets.
JULIAN BREEN - Julian loves his cricket and is always keen to support the boys; also loves a beer! We can safely call Julian an all-rounder. Good at every position.
ANTHONY CRISAFULLI (Ant) - Another all-rounder. Great for the team and very versatile in the field. Handy batsman and took his share of wickets.
RYAN EMERSON - Ryan scored runs with the bat and was very keen in the field. Ryan mixed well with everyone.
RUSSELL HANNA - (JD) - Russell only played part of the season but was successful with the bat and ball. Another fine team-player.
DEAN McMILLAN (Deano) - Dean was our opening bowler and managed to take his share of wickets. Dean was also a fine batsman.
RUSSELL MEYER - Russell improved during the season, scoring a 46 not out off about 10 balls. He also took his share of wickets and was a gem on the field.
DANIEL NAIR (Dan) - Another fine teamsman, handy with the ball and great in the field. Dan also liked an occasional beer.
BRADLEY PRICE (Pricey) - Brad was our wicket-keeper for most of the season (sharing with Clinton ). Great behind the stumps and a fine opening batsman. Well done Brad!
DANIEL TENCH (Tenchy) - Daniel was our Captain and led his warriors to some very good wins and a few close losses. Daniel was also our opening bowler and managed many wickets and had his share of runs with the bat.
MATTHEW TERNI - Don Bradman - eat your heart out! First year of cricket for Matt. He always batted at No.10 and handled the bat well. Keep it up Matt!
PETER WAGNER - Pete unfortunately had to mix work with cricket. A fine cricketer and a great bloke. Another handy opening batsman and did a great job.
DANIEL WALSH - Daniel missed a few games and batted down the order, always keen on the field and showed alot of enthusiasm. Daniel has always been a fine team-player.
2008/09 Season
Congratulations to our 10A, 12A, 12E & 16A teams for being crowned premiers for 2008/09. Our Men’s teams found it a little tougher this year and although three teams made the final series all were defeated but not before putting in sterling efforts. Click for details:
