Bill Knowles (1998)

Bill played senior cricket and coached junior teams for the club. He held the position of Property Officer for the club for 15 years from 1987/88 to 2001/02 after which the position was split into two parts, Equipment and Uniforms. Bill continued on as Uniform Officer for another 8 years from 2002/03 to 2009/10.

Over the years Bill has been one of the hardest working members of the club. A phenomenal individual fundraiser with an unparalleled record for selling raffle tickets. If there is a work to be done he is always there. Bill was the “Club Sportsman of the Year” in 1993/94 and was awarded Life Membership in 1998 with the “Most Outstanding Junior in Men’s Cricket” trophy being named in his honour.

Bill’s son Greg played 26 years for the club from 1983/84 to 2007/08 and returned again for 1 season in 2009/10 and was awarded Life Membership in 2008 with the “Senior Fielding Performance” trophy being named in his honour. Greg also coached junior teams for the club and was a member of the 1999/00 & 2000/01 A1 Premier teams.

Bill’s brother Ross known to all as “Doc” coached junior teams with the club for 4 seasons, Club Secretary for 3 seasons 1988/89 to 1990/91 and Junior Registrar for 4 seasons 1988/89 to 1991/91. Ross was “Club Sportsman of the Year” in 1991/92 and made a return to cricket in the 1998/99 to play alongside his son Beau who was “Senior Club Champion” in the same season.
