Welcome to the upcoming season for the Dragons - we look forward to seeing you back playing cricket.

We have set aside 4 days this year for registrations at our Anzac Oval Club Rooms as follows:

    1. Saturday 24th July 9am to 1pm
    2. Sunday 25th July 9am to 1pm
    3. Saturday 31st July 9am to 1pm
    4. Sunday 1st August 9am to 1pm

Our registration fees remain very competitive and for the second year in a row they have not been increased.

Registration fees include the cost of a new coloured playing shirt valued at $25. It would be appreciated if you could review last season’s playing shirt to see whether it is still in good condition and fits appropriately. It might be a good idea to record down the size of the old shirt so that you know when being sized up for a new shirt at registrations that you are getting a bigger sized shirt.

Registration forms can be obtained by clicking on the following link:

Please complete it prior to registration days as it will make it quicker for you to be in and out on whichever day you decide to come.

In terms of payment, we only accept cheques and cash (there will not be any Eftpos or Credit Card facilities available).

For all new players we will also need a copy of their birth certificate. You can bring along a copy for us to keep or alternatively we will provide email details for you to scan and send the certificate to us.

If you have any questions in the interim please do not hesitate to contact Tony Marciante (Junior Registrar) or Neil Croker (Secretary).

We look forward to catching up with all of you on our registration days.

    Onya Dennis! Great news mate

Dennis came to our Club in the 1994/95 season with his son Chris. The following year Dennis took on the role as coach of the 12A team of which Chris was a member. Dennis then went on to coach for the following 3 seasons before taking a break for one season. In 2000/01 Dennis returned to the coaching ranks. In the past ten seasons he was successful in winning 7 “A” Grade Premierships.

His record of 14 years of coaching is a tremendous achievement on its own but Dennis has also been a member of the Club’s Management Committee for four years, coach of our U/10 Development Squad for 2 years and he has been a member of the Club’s Grading Committee for 13 years.

Dennis has also coached SSJCA Representative Teams for 10 seasons during this time and is but one of a small number of EDCC coaches who over a long period have promoted our Club’s efforts and contribution to Shire cricket through their work for the SSJCA.

Dennis has a great passion for cricket and its history and he has generously passed on his enthusiasm and love for the game to countless players. Dennis is one of the most likable and respected characters in our Club and Association.

    Congratulations Dennis!

Hey Nick Nickas owmer of "The Good Guys" how about sponsership, great free add!

During the week an old cricket head sat all the boys down and told them to enjoy and savour their experience in the final saying that this day would come and go in a flash, but the memories would last forever.

For ten of the boys this was their third straight final so they went into the match with a clear advantage of experience, and having beaten Como-Jannali convincingly in both encounters this season they were quietly confident of lifting the trophy.

Before the boys took the field it was explained that not everyone may bat or bowl today, and that was the nature of a final, especially an A grade one. The final is only one match and it takes ten rounds to get there with every player contributing.

The toss went Como’s way and the lucky coin found itself in the nearby swamp, as expected the opposition elected to bat. Como got off to a tremendous start with their openers facing some tight bowling to post a 51 run partnership of 23 overs and setting a platform for a formidable total. The boys weathered the storm and fought their way back into the match and restricted the opposition to 9 for 89 of their 50 overs. The wickets were spread evenly with Matt (3), Joel (2) and one each to Jack, Lachlan, Luke and Jarrod. Joey was superb behind the stumps taking three catches with Adam, Joshua, Jack, Dylan and Jarrod one catch apiece in the field. The boys should be very proud of their fielding performance, I can’t remember a groundball misfield, the throwing was sensational and the talk and encouragement went for the full fifty overs. Congratulations to Joshua for captaining the side so confidently and was ably assisted by Joey. Both boys have done a great job all year.

With ninety runs to chase Joey swapped pads and walked out to open with the iceman Jarrod, both boys batted maturely and saw off the two quality Como lefties with an opening stand of 25 of ten overs. When Joey was dismissed Joel came to the crease and in a word “Demolished” the opposition’s bowling. Joel raced to 48 falling two short of his first fifty but in doing so saw the team to the premiership. Jarrod finished unbeaten on 27 and again proved to be a big game player.

After the match the umpires announced the “Player of the Final” with the nominees being Jack, Matt, Joey and Joel from the Dragons and Luke from Como. Joel with 2 for 8 off 8 overs and 48 runs deservingly took the honours and the match ball.

Well done to all the players for their efforts this season, it was a pleasure to coach you all. Thank you to Andrew for scoring every match this season and his amazing work as manager, also thanks to Michael and Steve who were always on hand when needed to set the field up. Finally thank you to the parents that supported us.

Thank you to the many committee and club members that gave us tremendous support during the day and for the celebration back at Anzac afterwards. Commiserations to our other four sides who were runners up on the day.

    Ian and Dennis

Firstly, congratulations to the Engadine Dragons Cricket Club, for winning the 2009/10 Club Championship. It is a reflection of the talent we have in the club, that this is the 4th time we have taken it home in the last 6 years, with us running 2nd on the 2 occasions we have missed out. During the last 5 years, we have participated in 17 out of the 20 possible A Grade finals. This year, we continue with all 4 A grade teams making the finals, 3 as minor premiers and welcome our young 10C’s into their first final.

    Junior Finals

    • 16A - Minor Premiers Engadine Dragons v Illawong Menai at Heathcote No 1
    • 14A - Minor Premiers Gymea Bay v Engadine Dragons at Gwawley North
    • 12A - Minor Premiers Engadine Dragons v Como Jannali at Gwawley West
    • 10A - Minor Premiers Engadine Dragons v Caringbah Sports at Sutherland No 2
    • 10C - Minor Premiers Engadine Dragons v St Patricks at Gymea Bay Oval

Make sure you get out and support these young champions as they continue to make Engadine Dragons Cricket Club the place to be.

Congratulations to our A2 team, who have brought home the premiership, winning a tight fought match against Como.  It’s always tough batting second in a final, but the minor premiers dug deep thanks to an amazing innings by Drew Lake, who hit 34 including 22 of the final over.

Our B5’s and C1’s, both had close fought games chasing handy totals but falling just short.

If you have any photos of the day, then send them though and will will post them here - photos@engadinedragonscc.org.au

Sponsored By A1 METALTECH Pty. Ltd.

Dragons V’s Bangor Tavern at Oyster Bay.

HIGHLIGHTS: Lance Birkett 3-25, Jordan Duncan 3-34 & Paul Dixon 16 runs.

The Dragons lost the toss & were given first use of the ball. The weather was ideal for bowling, warm & humid, but a bit more cloud cover would have been to the Dragons’ advantage to assist the movement of the ball in the air.

Matty opened the bowling with both Jordan & Lance as they move the ball in opposite directions & make the batsmen have to think a bit harder. Lance (3-25 of 15overs/6maidens) was successful in his 1st over (1-3) & Jordan (3-34 off 16overs/1maiden) “chipped in” in his 4th over to have them at 2-9 after 7 very tight overs.

The bowling accuracy was maintained throughout the 52.1 overs that the opposition faced, with them having 4 wickets “bowled”, 2 wickets “LBW”, 2 wickets “caught Wicket Keeper (Ian Mitchell)” & the other 2 wickets “caught” by well placed fielders (Jon Rout & Steve Robertson). The other wicket takers were Kurt Mitchell (2-27 off 10.1 overs/3 maidens), Sam Dixon (1-11 off 4 overs/1 maiden) & Jon Rout (1-18 off 7 overs). Had the team not dropped a couple of difficult chances from the opposition’s “top scorer/51″ their total would have been a lot less than the 120 AO that they achieved.

Day 2 was an extreme disappointment for the Team as, unfortunately the Batsmen did not bring their “A GAME” on the Sunday & were AO75 inside 45 overs in what was the B6 Team’s worst performance with the bat for the season. The top score was Paul Dixon with 16 runs & the only other double figure score apart from the Sundries. The 2nd day was a bit like “GROUNDHOG DAY” for this Team as, once again the bad weather intervened with over an hour of play lost due to the thunder storm that hit the Shire. This was not the reason for the Dragons’ loss however, because on the day they were not the “best team”.

The Team would all like to express their whole hearted thanks to TIM BERRY, his Mum CATHY, his Dad COL & to STEVE JONES & JOHN WESTLAKE for being present & in support of the B6’s in this important game. We only wish we could have been more successful. It was unfortunate that Tim didn’t get a run in the game due to the Association’s somewhat confusing Bylaws, but he is more than welcome to play for the Team next season full time if he wishes.

    LOFTY.

To all the Dragons’ Captains whose teams are still in contention for the Semi Finals/Finals, a BIG REMINDER that your attendance at the SSCA Semi Finals/Finals Captains Meeting will be held at Glenn McGrath Oval, Caringbah next Monday 22nd February, 2010 at 7.30pm SHARP. Please do not be late. If you cannot attend, please ensure a reliable team member attends in your place. If you have a doubt as to whether your team has qualified, I would suggest you attend the meeting just in case unknown results are in your favour. There will be important information regarding law differences relating to the Semi Finals/Finals that you will be informed of.

As instructed by Noel Taplin, you MUST have your results in by no later than 6.00PM this Sunday 21st Feb. or even sooner to ensure the SSCA Committee can formulate a draw & ground allocations for all the grades for the Semi Finals & Finals, which will be advised at the Captains Meeting.

I wish to remind all team Captains/Managers/Scorers that, the back of the scorebook for each team MUST BE filled out in duplicate A,B,C & D sheets (E is optional). The reason for this is that the SSCA require this information for awards, as they will not be going by the Online information, but solely by the scorebooks. If you are not involved with the Semi Finals/Finals, could you please attend to this ASAP after Round 14 & drop them into my place, 2 Crest Place, Engadine, so that they can be checked, & then forwarded to David Dee. Please note, if your scorebook is not correctly filled out, you will get it returned until it is correct. If you are having trouble & don’t understand what is required, please do not hesitate to contact me & I will help you out.

The B5’s, B8’s & C1’s are in 3rd spot (all needing a win in the last game to qualify). It also appears that the B3’s (Duty Team Rd14) & C2/1’s will need results to go their way in the last round to qualify for the Semi-Final.

Going into Rd13 & beyond the Dragons Senior teams still have the A2’s, B3’s, B5’s, B6’s, B8’s & C2/1’s in line for Semi-Final or Finals berths, with the B1’s, B9’s & C1’s with a slim outside chance of getting there.

From the 12 teams in the Club, with 10 still in contention, this is a fantastic effort from the Mens’ Teams & the Club should be extremely proud of their efforts & hard work to put the Dragons’ name to the forefront of the Seniors’ Comps.

The Dragons “good name” has taken a bit of a battering in the last couple of seasons in the seniors, but appears to be on the mend with the SSCA.

So, let’s keep the good work going fellas!!!

    Lofty.

We would like to invite junior cricketers from across NSW and ACT to be a part of the Wanderers Australia Junior Cricket Tour for Easter 2011, and if possible we would ask if you can pass this email onto players in your district. Thank you very much !

Our squad will consist of individual players from across Australia, who will come together to form teams that will play in the West Indies during the Australian Easter school holidays in 2011. We have taken away on tour over 2000 young Australians in cricket, hockey, soccer and AFL football in the last 13 years.

The tour will travel to Barbados where they will play a series of games against club, representative and specialised sporting school’s teams. Each team will play approx 7 games in total on tour over approx 18 days……We may also be playing in Antigua subject to scheduling and availability.

The tour will finish with a brief visit to Los Angeles, where the squad will play against representative teams from the United States Under 19 program, as well as have the opportunity to tour Hollywood and Santa Monica, Disneyland and Universal Studios.

We are taking two teams (26 boys in total) and the tour is open to boys 14 to 18 years of age in 2011. Our teams will play against U15 teams and U18 teams. Parents/siblings are also welcome to join the tour as supporters.

The tour is paid off via a series of instalments between now and February 2011 to make the tour affordable.

The tour will be led by experienced coaches and managers, all of whom are teachers who have level 2 or 3 coaching accreditations, and will closely supervise the boys throughout the tour. All three of our staff have toured to England or to the West Indies previously on tour with us.

In 2007 we were the first junior team from Australia to tour the Caribbean !

We already have boys on board from across Australia, and in most cases, the boys are the only individual from their area participating. Places will be filled on a first come first in basis and all players will play equal match time. Please note that our touring squad to England for Winter 2010 of 40 boys filled in 10 days, and we anticipate that this tour will also be quite popular….

    Inclusions for the tour:

    • International flights with Delta Airlines as well as any inter island flights required.
    • Accommodation with breakfast daily
    • A couple of tour dinners in the Caribbean and in LA
    • Comprehensive travel insurance
    • Tours of Hollywood and LA
    • Internal transfers via luxury coach
    • Arrangement of matches against local clubs, schools and representative teams in the Caribbean and in California

Last Friday afternoon the Engadine Dragons 10C team had their usual organised training session at the oval of Engadine West Public School. During the training activities I lost my wedding ring and had two unsuccessful searches that evening and again the following morning. Thankfully during the Engadine 10Fs match a young boy named Jonty found the ring and admirably handed it in to his mother. I believe a network of phone calls were then made on Saturday afternoon to track the owner. I have since picked up the ring and feel an overwhelming sense of relief. I would personally like to extend my gratitude to all those people who helped me look for the ring on Saturday morning from the 10As team and Patty from the 10Cs. Thank you to all those people involved and made the effort to trace me as the owner. To the parents of the 10C team who sent positive thoughts and wishes and offers to help look for the ring - thank you very much. A special thank you of course goes to Jonty!

This story reinforces the community spirit that exists such as when our club hosts coaching clinic for our players on school holidays and everyone is made to feel welcome, when one walks the main street of Engadine and chat with people and when drivers allow pedestrians to cross a road safely before they turn a corner. These incidents may be small things but they do not occur in every suburb of society. It is great to experience and be a part of a strong sense of community in our local area where people and friends genuinely feel a part of and share our life experiences.

    JUNIOR:
Remember round 7…Well in this round Luke Miller from the 12A side hit up a great 51 n/o to help his team to a good win over Como Jannali, great batting Luke.

    INTERMEDIATE:
What a terrific contribution Eden Murphy made to take 5 for 14. Eden from our 14C’s put a mighty big dent in the St Pats batting, they were all out for the small total of 76, keep up the good work Eden.

    SENIORS:
    ROUND 9
Another two share this round for the seniors, Jordan Dow with a fabulous 104 n/o for the B3’s against Miranda Magpies. His dig was half the B3’s score, great work Jordan.
The other player was Patrick Bird from our C2-2’s. Patrick won’t forget this day for a while, he finished with the magnificent figures of 8 for 11, top bowling Patrick.

    ROUND 10…..No winner

Capture the moment big boy..a moment to remember..

Our 12/A team coached by Ian Latham and Dennis Pendergast made the semi-finals of the Michael Clarke Twenty20 comp, played out at the magnificent Blacktown Olympic Park but lost to Campbelltown Magpies. Batting first we scored 106 mainly due to a top partnership by Joel Almond (31 runs) and Jack “Rowdy” Dwarshuis 25no. Campbelltown had 2 excellent batsmen opening their innings and found no problems with our bowling attack to win in the 19th over. The boys should be proud of their efforts and hopefully learnt from playing on a turf wicket for the first time.

In Round 3, our 16A’s had a big win posting an amazing 198 from 20 overs, which is the highest score posted by any team in the U16’s competition.

Undefeated half centuries to Ben Dwarshuis and Jordan Dow, backed up with doubles to James Barnes and Jonathan Haslam meant they live on with the slimmest of chances.

They are now awaiting results from the remaining games. They are currently running 4th with 2 games remaining. We will watch with interest, because if they get in, then Engadine will have 2 teams in out of 3 attempts - a great result!
