16Cs Vs v Como/Janalli at Solander South
Another loss of the toss & Como elected to bat. Having only played the Minor Premiers once in a rain shortened match we didn't have a lot of time in the middle against Como, so previous innings weren't much of a guide.
Our result prior to the final showed the boys were really working hard for the place in the finals. Round 7 had us in 5th place on 25 points then, Round 9 4th on 39 points & the 10th Round moved us to 2nd!
Como's batting opened strongly against an aggressive attack from Mat Jones & Christian Haynes. It wasn't till the 17th over when Clinton Allen struck in his 2nd over removing one of the openers with the score on 1/70. By 20 overs Como was 1/85. The boys bowling was straight - occasionally too wide when looking for those LBW decisions. The fielding was excellent, no overthrows and everyone running down the batsmen's shots, keeping the fours down was hard but everyone worked hard in hot & humid conditions.
The next 20 overs were not as productive for Como, keeping the score to 3/156 with some excellent sharp fielding and great return throws. Catches were hard to come by, but those that went to Mat Jones - very sharp at square leg & Brendan Townsend out in the deep were excellent. Hoping to keep Como under 200 was now the plan but when the batsman have their eye in it's very hard.
Como finished the 60 overs at 6/200 - they were the only team all year to last 60 overs against our bowlers.

Our innings started well. In the 10th over being 0/29 all looked good. But by the 14th over loosing two wickets was going to make the chase more challenging. Tom Teuma had helped with 32 runs till he fell with the score on 4/75 the rest needed to dig deep. Alex Sambuco also hit a great 32, but when he fell & we hadn't reached half Como's score we certainly needed a miracle. Unfortunately no miracles, but some excellent effort's. We finished all out on 115.

The team had nothing to be ashamed of in the final. After making that final dash in the last rounds they were certainly looking like a combination that could win. Unfortunately we lost vital wickets, but the season showed that this team which had only 3 players from last years 16C could play with the best.
Congratulations boys, it was a pleasure to manage the side & I know Craig enjoyed coaching. Many thanks to Robbie Knight & Paul O'Reilly for training the team as well. Maybe next year for those still in u16 & for those moving to seniors will see you as the Premiers!

14A's Vs Illawong at Gwawley North
Engadine 9-205 DEFEATED Illawong 7-199
Well what a memorable and exciting end to a fantastic season. The boys have a lot to be proud of this game - and in the end the Dragons fighting spirit prevailed!
J.D lost the toss and lo and behold we found ourselves in the field. John and Jordy started off well with the ball, with Bubbles forcing a runout in the very first over, 1-4. From there, the Illawong batsman took hold, aided by some poor fielding from Engadine. Enter Dean McMillan. Deanos powered to pick up the ball in the outfield and ripped in a long throw, catching an Illawong danger-man short of his ground. From this point, things began to go our way, with Illawong at one stage losing 4-0 thanks to an immaculate spell from Sam Newman. In Sam's first spell of 4-9, catches were taken by Nathan Loder, Bubbles (screamer) and Kenny. After drinks, Illawong's batsmen took control of our bowlers and seemed to score at will - amassing a formidable total of 7-199. Although Sam was our only wicket-taker - Kenny, Jordan, Mark and John bowled a good line and length throughout.
After the long break, Adam and Rhino fronted up to their attack. We got off to a good start before losing Adam to a small nick. Ryan looked in fantastic form until he was caught after 2 consecutive fours for 30, and Sam and Nathan did not overly trouble the scorers. This brought together Bubbles and Deano who formed a solid partnership which saw us through to the drinks break. When Deano was out soon after drinks, Bubbles had already reached his 50 and looked in danger of losing partners. Jordy tried hard to stick around - sharing in a 40 run partnership with Mark - as did Beddy and Jeremy who provided valuable support. This is when the excitement began!!
Come together Kenny and Bubbles. With Kenny surrounded, Illawong tried everything to get him out, bowling full, short, slow and fast. However, with his bat pointed firmly at the ground, he let nothing past and blocked everything for the better part of 8 overs. In the 59th over, Mark's run-scoring had brought us equal with Illawong. With a calculated poke down the ground from Mark, Kenny scampered to the other end to bring us VICTORY!
Mark's innings was perhaps the best I have ever seen - breaking a number of personal and club records. His 113* was his first century, highest score and the first century by a junior Dragon in a final. Kenny's 2* may seem a small contribution, but his determination to stay at the crease brought us the Premiership.
Cricket is a team game, and and it is interesting to note that of the 10 partneships all but one reached double figures, and the last 3 partnerships were 21(Mark and Michael), 20(Mark and Jeremy) and 23(Mark and Kenny). This is indicitave of this teams "It ain't over 'til it's over" approach to a challenge.
This game was the closest and most exciting game I have been involved with, and it will certainly go down in Dragons folklore. Full credit must go to Illawong for their efforts on the day, there was certainly no shame in losing. Also, to the Forshaw's for the BBQ, Matt Fraser for his 12th-man efforts and the Smith's for their trip down from Orange. So, congratulations once again to Mark, and to the entire team for their 'never-say-die' attitude.

12A's Vs Illawong at Gwawley East
Engadine 5-241 DEFEATED Illawong 9-156
Finally the time had arrived that all of the boys had been waiting for, the big Grand Final. With the Minor Premiership secured, the boys trained hard during the week to set themselves up for a tough game. Benny D started us off well by winning the toss and deciding to bat. The toss is very important in a final so parents and kids alike were pretty happy with the result.
Hayden and Liam opened up and started us off very well. They got through to 8th over (last of the openers) before Hayden was well caught from a very good pull shot for 8. Liam was unlucky to be run out for 6 and we were on 2-21 after 8 overs. A strong partnership was needed between Joel and Benny and they didn't disappoint. The lucky supporters witnessed a 25 over, 104 run partnership which ended in the 33rd over with captain Ben falling for 54. His 54 runs included 2 singles, 2 twos and 12 FOURS! Robbie went to a good ball two deliveries later and we were 4-126 after 33. The last 17 overs were absolute carnage as Jordan (28), Ryan (24 from 14 balls) and Joel (78*) tore the Illawong attack to shreds, sending them to all corners. Our 50 overs gone and the score amassed was a very healthy 5-241. Quite possibly one of the best batting performances this coach has ever seen.
After a nice rest it was time to bowl and never at any stage did any of our bowlers give Illawong a sniff. Tight bowling and inspirational fielding kept Illawong down to 9-156 from their 50 overs. Good captaincy saw 11 bowlers get a bowl and the figures didn't let him down. Hobbo 0-19 off 6, Ryan 1-18 off 8, Joel 0-18 off 9, Hayden 3-18 off 6 (including the first 3 batsmen), Jimmy B 1-14 off 4, Benny 1-15 off 6, Richo 1-13 off 2, Liam 0-3 off 2, Carps 1-3 off 2, Mark 0-12 off 2 and Robbie Farnan 1-21 off 3. The keeping, in tough conditions, was faultless as per usual by Jordy. He only let through 2 byes and took a catch to go with it. Other cracking catches went to Ryan (2), Carps, Benny, Robbie and Hobbo. Man of the Match for the Final went to Joel for his solid batting performance. Congratulations boys on a convincing 85 run victory. Your coach, manager and parents couldn't be more proud of such a strong team effort by such a talented bunch of cricketers.
Thanks for the season.

12Ds Vs v Miranda Magpies at Lakewood City
The day commenced with both teams shaking hands and wishing each other good luck which set the tone for a great final played in a sportsman like manner.
Miranda won the toss and elected to bat.
Nick Chamberlain took the cherry for the Dragons and had his outswingers working well in the overcast weather.
Nick claimed the first wicket in his second over where Ethan Verdich took a great catch leaving Miranda 1 down for 2 runs.
Nick zeroed in again and clean bowled the Miranda first drop in his third over leaving our opponents 2 for 8.
You could sense our enthusiasm as the boys were running into position between overs.
Miranda fought back and reached 48 before Ethan Verdich cleaned bowled their opener.
Some great fielding from the boys was a feature and excellent catches from Rhys Marlow, Andrew Hoff, Michael McFarlane and Jackson Micallef had Miranda reeling at 8 for 79.
The bowling too was accurate and it was pleasing to see that the low sundry rate.
Conor Ellem finished his spell well with 2 for 15 off 4 overs. Jarryd Holmes did well for his 3 for 10 off 5 overs.
The pick of the bowlers was Nick Chamberlain who cleaned up the tail finishing with 4 for 17 off 8 overs leaving Miranda all out for 95 at the 36 over mark.
Knowing that it was a final coach Wade Horsnell was quick to point out that Miranda had the runs and we had to get them. Wade gave the boys a pep talk at the break emphasising the need to occupy the crease for the full 50 overs.
Ethan Verdich and Nick Chamberlain took to the crease and got us off to a good start seeing out the opening bowlers until Nick got a good one and was out with the score at 22.
Ethan and Rhys Marlow continued in the same fashion until Rhys holed out in the covers with the score at 40.
Unfortunately we lost some quick wickets and at the 24 over mark were 7 for 58.
Then came the Matt factors.
Mathew Reynolds and Mathew Lister dug in and steadied the ship slowing edging the score forward. In recognising this Miranda brought their openers back and tried blow us away.
Matt Lister showed true courage as he dismissed being hit around the chest and composed himself for the next ball not wishing to show the opposition any chink in his armour.
Mathew Reynolds displayed amazing patience and treated each ball on the stumps with respect and only opening up on the few loose deliveries that Miranda had on offer.
Our best over was the 28th where the two Matt's put on 11 which kept us moving ever so closer to the 'GET'
At the end of the 36th over drinks were called at the score of 7 for 92.
Upon resuming and facing his second ball Matt Reynolds relieved everybody's tension especially mine sending the ball crashing to the boundary at backward square leg right in front of the Miranda supporters securing our victory.
These two boys showed outstanding patience, courage and maturity and were both deserving winners of the "men of the match award."
It was a proud moment for all connected with the team as their team mates cheered and ran on to usher them off the field.
Coaches Wade Hornsell, Paul O'Reilly and I would like to take this opportunity in thanking the parents, supporters and the club for making this year a wonderful cricket experience for the boys.
Special thanks to 12A Coach Robbie Knight whose guidance and support throughout the year was very much appreciated.

C3's Vs Miranda
Engadine 128 Lost to Miranda 6/142
After a comfortable win in the semi the boys were keen for the final clash against Miranda. We won the toss and batted first with no hesitation whatsoever. We lost Dean in the 1st over for 2 and were in trouble again a couple of overs later losing Bucko for 3 and were 2-13.
The 2 most in form batsmen in Flemo and Brad settled us down for a while before the Flem fell for 7 at 3-39 (we were 6-27 at the same time last time we played this team). Brad was playing great showing his brilliance with some classy strokes until he fell for a well compiled 26. Nick got out to a good ball for 8 and Mitch and Tyson sore the team to drinks at 5-83 after 20 overs.
Tyson fell shortly after drinks for 13 and not long after Lalor was caught out without scoring and we were in trouble again at 7-89. However some aggressive batting from Jack and Mitch got the score up and over 100 beofre Jack was out for 13. Mitch was out later for 21 and Corey ended on 2 and Kurt 5 not out. A score of 128 we thought was defendable.
At the end of the day 21 overs we had bowled and Miranda were 5-83 with all but 1 of their big guns gone. Nick and Brad bowled great both taking wickets and having Miranda struggling. Tyson came on and got 2 vital breakthroughs. Bucko's catch at 1st slip was brilliant and Flemos catch too was good while Lalor's catch went a mile in the air but he still hung onto it.
The next day Nick bowled out their last big gun without him getting any more runs and us, the underdogs were slightly on top, however it was not to be with the 2 young blokes batting well and getting past our score ending on 6-142.
A good, very enjoyable and eventful season finished but next year we'll be back.
Performances
Brad 26 and 1-72 (off 18 overs) Nick 3-43 Tyson 2-24 and 13 Mitch 21 Player of the final went to Brad
