Engadine Dragons 67 lost to DLS Seagulls 90

Although we lost by 23runs this was the teams best performance of the year. The positives were we only lost 5 wickets (the lowest number lost so far this year) and the low number of wides and no balls, also a years best. The only negative was the running between the wickets . We lost many runs as a result of indesicive calling and will be concentrating on this aspect in training in the coming weeks.

Engadine won the toss and decided to bat first. Marley and Luke Taylor opened the batting and gave us a solid start of  12 against some very accurate bowling. Natan and Nick followed up with a partnership of 8. Again the bowling was very accurate and the fielding by the Seagulls was very good. Riley and Kobey were our third pairing and produced 17 runs. Neither lost his wicket and were kept at bay by the accurate bowling.

Seagulls then batted and scored 58 by the close of play.We were able to take 6 wickets, shared between Nick, Nathan,Koby, Marley, Riley and Luke. Seagulls last pairing scored 27 and our boys seemed to have their minds on going home rather than competing to the end. I am sure they will learn that you have to compete until the last ball of the day.

Day 2 saw Seagulls batting first and a complete change in attitude by the boys. They fielded with gusto and really attacked the ball and returned to the keeper with haste and accuracy. The backing up and relay fielding were also pleasing. The Seagulls last pair scored 22 and again we seemed to drop off a bit. In all we restricted them to 40 runs, giving them a match total of 90 runs.

Sean and Luke Tripi took wickets and we effected 2 runouts.  Sean and Josh opened our batting and scored 20 runs giving us hope for a win. Sean was in particularly good touch and scored 10 runs. His leg side shots wre hit with power and he scored 1 boundary. Again the Seagulls excellant fielding resricted us.  Sam, Spence and Luke Tripi followed up but were unable to keep the momentum going.

The Man of the Match Award was given to Riley , who has improved tremendously and always tries his hardest whether it be at the game or at training. Mention must also be made of the Tripi brothers, Sam and Luke who both bowled with grea accuracy and were instrumental in restricting   the Seagulls score. Sean with 1-8 and 10 runs also deserves special mention.

A big thank you to Becky Hall and Reece Kelly who fielded as substitutes for us the first week. Reece took a beautiful catch and Becky chased down the ball with speed, saving quite a few runs. Thanks again.
