Engadine Dragons 8-90 lost to St John Bosco 11-113
Well what can I say! We managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and to say i am a little disappointed would be a gross understatement.
St John Boco won the toss and decided to bat first. We managed to restrict them to 37 runs and took 6 wickets. Nathan starred with the ball taking 3 wickets while Riley and Marley took 1 wicket each. We also effected a run out.
When are turn came to bat Riley and Koby started well by posting an 11 run opening stand and Spence and Sean followed up with 13 runs. Our third pairing of Josh and Marley posted another 20 runs and this gave us a lead of 7 runs at the end of the first day. Riley and Marley managed to to keep their wicket intact.
Day 2 saw us batting first and Luke and Sam Tripi started proceedings and posted a stand of 18 highlighted with a 4 all run. Luke and Nathan followed up with 28 and Nick and Blake ended our batting stint with 10runs.Luke Tripi and Nathan managed to keep their wicket intact. At this stage I thought we may have had enough runs to be competitive but we seemed to forget that you had to compete till the end of the game. Bosco's next 2 pairs blasted 76 runs from some very wayward bowling and our fielding was not up the standard that we have shown at different times. Nathan took another wicket giving him match figures of 4-6 as well as 15runs.An outstanding effort.Sean took 1 wicket and effected a run out. Becky took 1 wicket and had a catch dropped by her brother. Oh dear!! Sam also chimed in with a wicket.
Many thanks to Becky, Blake and Aiden for helping out in the field.
Congratulations to St John Bosco as they seemed to want to win the game more than our team. Hopefully the boys will learn that you have to compete to the end of the game, and this applies to any sport.
