Engadine 4: 7 for 80 beat Engadine 3*: 6 for 76
This game was a true local derby, Engadine V Engadine, but with a twist, boys verses girls. We knew before the start of this game it was going to be a close one, and it was, as the game went down to the wire with the girls eventually coming out on top.
The game was a special one for the Barden family as older sister Gabby was playing younger brother Ryan for bragging rights, well we had to wait for the second week to see this match up when Ryan strode to the crease and it was time to bring on big sis. Gabby’s 1st ball was a cracker bowling Ryan’s batting partner middle stump which then had Ryan on strike..the tension in the air was electric as Gabby gave her brother the evil eye at the top of her run up, Ryan looking back with a wry smile.in came Gabby coming in with lighting delivery and Ryan winding up to hit the ball into cow corner but the ball was just too good for little Ryan and big sis was on a hatrick but to no avail .. Gabby still had to bat and when she took off for a quick single her brother was stalking and with a great throw ran Gabby out and therefore the honours were shared.
Our bowling let us down this game (except for Gabby 3/12) and it was up to the girls to run hard with their batting and to stay enthusiastic in the field and go for run outs. Rebekah and Mikayla were again very dominant with their batting and were probably the difference between the teams. Tarni and Rebecca played their best innings to date along with Kelsey and Emily who only lost one wicket between them. Gabby and Meghan showed us how to put pressure on the fielding side. Zoe and Jemima played some dashing shots at the top of the order to get us underway.
This was a great start to the New Year and hopefully we can win the remaining games in the season and show the boys what "girl power" is all about.
